Rockstar Games released the Grand Theft Auto VI launch trailer on October 15th, five weeks before the game comes out. At 90 seconds it is short, but it is packed with small systems and story details that the earlier trailers and August’s Netflix Extended Look did not show. It covers Jason and Lucia’s relationship, the state of Leonida, and some unusually specific simulation work.
Quick answer: The launch trailer runs 90 seconds, was captured in-game on PS5, and confirms GTA VI launches November 19th, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
GTA 6 launch trailer and release details
The trailer went live on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and passed 13.8 million views and 1.1 million likes in roughly eight hours. It opens with a “Plays Best On PS5” card, which reflects Rockstar’s marketing deal with PlayStation. A DualSense controller also appears on screen, the second time one has shown up in a GTA VI trailer.

Pre-orders are open on both consoles. No PC version has been announced, and Rockstar has not given any PC timing. The November date is the end of a long delay history, too. The game was first planned for fall 2025, then moved to May 26th, 2026, and then to November 19th, 2026.
Jason and Lucia’s story in the launch trailer
The trailer opens in The Keys. Jason is working on a boat at Brian’s Marina and takes a phone call from Lucia while a seaplane lands behind him. Because he is out and working while she calls him, the scene points strongly toward Lucia beginning the game in prison. Later shots go further. In one shower scene, Lucia wears an ankle monitor with a red light, which suggests her release comes with parole conditions. The same monitor also appears in the game’s key art.
Crime and affection alternate through the rest of the montage: cash spills amid smoke during a bank-vault robbery; a crashing helicopter sends cargo into a glass skyscraper; a pickup speeds beneath an airliner on a runway; and a dirt bike bounds along an elevated rail line. The pair share quieter scenes under the covers and in the shower, then dive together into a lit pool. Rockstar says their bond may become romantic if players spend enough time on it, but whether these moments are scripted remains uncertain.
GTA 6 systems spotted in the trailer
Most of the new information comes from small things in the background, not the big set pieces. Several of them point to systems players will interact with constantly.
Character swap portraits that match your outfit
The character switch portraits are not fixed images. When the swap prompt appears on R1, each protagonist’s portrait reflects what they are wearing at that moment, including clothes, gear, and headwear. If you put a cap on Jason or Lucia, the portrait updates to show it.

Dogs, crowds, and street-level detail
Leonida’s pedestrians do more than walk. NPCs pull rolling luggage, and the trailer shows a range of dog breeds, each with its own leash and accessories. One dog is clearly a working animal. It rides in a military helicopter with Jason and wears a tactical vest, a headset, and its own small pair of goggles. Players can already pet dogs in GTA VI, and this is the first look at one equipped for missions.

The beaches are crowded, too. One shot shows a low-flying plane trailing pink smoke over a packed strip of sand and umbrellas. Its banner appears to advertise a crypto coin, which makes cryptocurrency a likely target for the series’ satire. The game itself has no blockchain features.
Weapon attachments and working wristwatches
Assault rifles appear with different attachments and visual variations, which points to weapon customization beyond simple paint jobs. One shot shows two women in pink balaclavas holding gold-plated rifles in front of a wall of guns, a likely nod to the movie Spring Breakers. Wristwatches on characters have detailed faces that show the current in-game time.

Night-vision missions and the sweat system
Jason appears in a squad wading through swamp water at sunset, wearing night-vision goggles and carrying a suppressed rifle. Other shots show him rappelling from a helicopter into a cargo ship at night and scoping a helicopter with a sniper rifle. The trailer hints at his military past, and these scenes could be a flashback, a present-day stealth job, or both.

Rockstar has also built a context-aware sweat system. Characters sweat in response to physical exertion, and the trailer shows it in three places. They sweat while sprinting, while dancing in a nightclub, and while working out in a gym. A muscular man doing cable flys and a dancer under red club lights show the effect most clearly.
Justice’s GTA VI score and “Flower in a Hurricane”
The trailer features the new single “Flower in a Hurricane,” from Justice, the French electronic duo. Three guest artists perform on the track:
- Tame Impala
- SZA
- King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
Justice also composed the game’s original score, making this the first mainline GTA with an original score. The track appears on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, available through major streaming platforms, and vinyl and CD pre-orders are now open. The game will also feature licensed radio stations and the franchise’s first podcasts recorded in-game.
Vice City marketing in Miami and launch-week coverage
The marketing has spread into real-world Florida. Vice City murals have appeared in Miami, along with a branded Vice City blimp and customized lowriders based on in-game cars.
The trailer also arrived alongside two long reads on the game’s history. On October 14th, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier published “The Making of Grand Theft Auto VI,” a feature on how Rockstar rebuilt itself while making the game. Former Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser, now running Absurd Ventures, also sat for an interview with IGN.
What GTA 6 still has not confirmed
With five weeks remaining, several questions are still unanswered. Rockstar has yet to announce a PC release date. Reports say review copies will be distributed by the end of October, and reviews are expected before launch, but Rockstar has not publicly announced when the review embargo lifts. The tactical swamp missions could be a prologue or part of the main story; their role is unclear.
The trailer arrives 13 years after GTA V. It is the fourth official look at the game and the first since the 26-minute Extended Look aired on Netflix in late August. That same week, Nintendo also showed its The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, but GTA’s 90 seconds drew most of the attention.
