A full map of Leonida spread across social media on August 19, 2026, posted by a hacker using the name Cyberleek alongside two minute-long gameplay clips. It is the clearest look yet at the layout of Rockstar’s Florida-inspired state, and it immediately reopened the argument fans have been having for years about exactly how much bigger this world is than Los Santos.
Quick answer: Rockstar has never published a square-kilometer figure for Leonida. The most widely accepted community measurements put it at roughly 1.5 to 3 times the size of GTA 5’s map, with the most cited coordinate-based estimate landing near 125 square kilometers against GTA 5’s 48 square kilometers.
What the leaked Leonida map actually shows
The leaked image is bigger than most people expected, and more importantly it is fuller. It names five counties that had not been seen before: Lummox, Leonard, Kelly, Vice Dale, and Mariana. It also carries a pile of smaller markers, including Jason’s safehouse, his position on the map, his car, and various activities scattered around the state.
The density is the real story. GTA 5 leaned on one major city plus Sandy Shores and Paleto Bay, with long empty stretches of road through Tongva, Mount Gordo, and Great Chaparral connecting them. Leonida’s layout is packed with unnamed smaller towns and neighborhoods filling the gaps between the named regions, which changes how the map plays even if the raw footprint were identical.
That caveat matters. Several side-by-side comparisons circulating online make the leaked map look close to the same size as GTA 5’s. But a map image says nothing about scale — Rockstar could have enlarged everything within the same outline, and two pictures at the same resolution will still look similar.

The numbers below come from long-running measurements of actual walkable and drivable land, not the water and out-of-bounds space around it. They give you the baseline every Leonida estimate is built on.
| Game | Land area |
|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto III | 4.38 km² |
| Grand Theft Auto: Vice City | 5.62 km² |
| Grand Theft Auto IV | 8.06 km² |
| Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas | 31.55 km² |
| Grand Theft Auto V | 48.15 km² |
Set against that, the 2002 version of Vice City covered 5.62 square kilometers. If Leonida lands anywhere near the low end of current estimates, the new Vice City region alone will comfortably exceed the entire state map of the original game.
The competing size estimates for GTA 6
There is no single agreed figure, and the range is wide enough that it is worth knowing which claims have weight and which do not.
| Estimate | How it was reached | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5x–2x GTA 5 | Mapping community analysis of trailers, screenshots, and official artwork | Most conservative and widely repeated |
| ~2x GTA 5 | Reconstruction of the map using leaked range units, compared via helicopter flight times | Plausible, unverified |
| ~125 km² (about 2.55x) | RAGE engine coordinate overlays placing the GTA 5 map on top of the projected layout | Most cited hard number |
| 2.5x–3x GTA 5 | Frame-by-frame trailer analysis by fans | Speculative |
| 3.5x GTA 5 | A rumor attributed to a user named Sonarys | Widely dismissed as false and outdated |
| “Hundreds or thousands of times” bigger | An early data-miner comparison of RAGE units | Not credible |
For context on the 125 square kilometer figure, that is in the same neighborhood as Liechtenstein, which covers roughly 160 square kilometers.
Note: the “thousands of times larger” claim comes from an early comparison that misread engine coordinate units. Treat any multiplier above about 3x as unsupported.
Rockstar-confirmed regions vs. leaked names
Leonida is Rockstar’s version of Florida, and the studio has already confirmed six major regions on the official Grand Theft Auto VI site. Everything else on the leaked image sits outside that confirmed list.
| Region or county | Type | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Main city | Confirmed |
| Port Gellhorn | West coast industrial city | Confirmed |
| Ambrosia | Industrial town by Lake Leonida | Confirmed |
| Grassrivers | Wetlands | Confirmed |
| Leonida Keys | Tropical island chain | Confirmed |
| Mount Kalaga National Park | Northern mountains and forest | Confirmed |
| Lummox, Leonard, Kelly, Vice Dale, Mariana | Counties | From the leaked map |
Kelly, Leonard, and Vice Dale had already shown up as counties in the mapping community’s reconstruction before the leak, which is part of why the image was taken seriously so quickly.
How the fan-made map compares to the leak
The State of Leonida mapping project has spent years rebuilding the state from trailer frames, promotional screenshots, and leaked coordinates. Placed next to the leaked image, its work holds up remarkably well. Cities and towns sit in the right places, and most of the road network and structures line up.
The project’s site also lets you toggle the maps of GTA 5, GTA 4, San Andreas, and Vice City on top of the Leonida layout to judge scale directly. By that comparison, Leonida is larger than every previous Grand Theft Auto map by a clear margin.
What the reconstruction gets you is geography, not density. Where the leak adds value is in the smaller settlements between regions, the things the community had no way to place from trailers alone.
Where the leak came from and why to stay skeptical
The map first appeared on Imgur and was then reposted to the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit. Cyberleek plastered the image with advertisements for a cryptocurrency and a protest against PlayStation discontinuing physical discs. The same crypto advertising appears in the two gameplay clips, which show Jason driving around and playing basketball.
That framing is a reason for caution. Self-promotional material attached to a leak does not make the leak fake, but it does mean the person distributing it has an incentive to maximize attention. Cyberleek has not released anything further about the map since.
The more useful point is that a map image cannot settle the size question on its own. Only scale data, of the kind pulled from engine coordinates, can do that, and Rockstar has published none of it.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and that is when the map’s real dimensions become measurable rather than estimated. Until then, the safest position is the one the numbers actually support: a map somewhere between roughly 1.5 and 3 times the size of Los Santos, and one built to be busier per square kilometer than anything Rockstar has shipped before.
