The Prelude of Halloween: The Game hides two Loomis Logs during Michael Myers’ escape from the sanatorium. These are tape recordings that fill in lore about Michael, and once you collect them you can play them back from the Graveyard menu. Neither sits on the obvious path, and both stop being reachable the moment you pry open the final gate, so grab them before you leave.
Quick answer: Get the first log on top of the trash can in the yard behind your starting point, then get the second one on top of the trash can inside the bus station shelter down the street from the power box. Collect both before you open the powered gate, because you cannot return afterward.

Both Prelude Loomis Log locations
| Log | Where to look | Exact spot |
|---|---|---|
| First log | The courtyard behind your starting position | On top of the trash can under the lamppost, in the corner across from the doorway |
| Second log | The bus station near the power box at the bottom of the hill | On top of the trash can inside the bus shelter |

The Prelude opens with Michael stepping out of a fenced-in area after the courtyard fence has been knocked flat, with patients and orderlies scattered around. Most players push straight ahead, which walks you right past the first collectible.

Second Loomis Log at the bus station
The second log does not appear until you reach the bottom of the hill and get the prompt to turn off the power box. It is off to the side of the objective marker, so you have to leave the direct route for a moment.

The point where the logs lock behind you
Both areas stay open right up until you go through the gate you cut the power to. Once you pry that gate open, the Prelude pushes Michael toward the escape and you cannot walk back to either trash can. If you are missing one, do not open the gate yet.
Note: Handle everything else you want in the area first, then treat opening the gate as your final action for the Prelude.
How to confirm you collected both
Each log is a tape recording, so you verify your progress after the level from the main menu. Open the Graveyard menu and scroll to the tape entries to see which logs you have and to play back the lore you unlocked. If both Prelude entries show up there, you cleared the pair and can move on to the collectibles in Chapter 1.
