Halloween: The Game Prologue Challenge 3 Guide (Telephone Pole Execution)

Where the usable telephone pole sits, how to trigger the Rusty Impale prompt, and how challenge progress saves.

Where the usable telephone pole sits, how to trigger the Rusty Impale prompt, and how challenge progress saves.

Challenge 3 in the Prologue of Halloween: The Game asks for one specific kill: “Execute an Orderly with the Telephone Pole.” It sounds simple, and the problem is not the execution itself. It is that most players reach the right spot with no orderly left to drag there, or try the poles they walked past earlier in Smith’s Grove and get nothing.

Quick answer: Keep one orderly alive until you reach the power box at the end of the first outdoor area, grab him, drag him to the telephone pole on the right of that power box, and press Interact when the Rusty Impale prompt appears.

Telephone pole location in the Prologue

Only one telephone pole in the Prologue registers as an environmental execution point. It sits near the end of the first outdoor area, to the right of the power box you have to shut off before prying open the gate to the next section. The rest of the poles scattered around the grounds, including the ones near where Michael first gets out of the asylum, do nothing.

So play the mission normally until the objective points you toward the lower gate. That rainy stretch of road and woods is where the challenge happens.

The area also triggers a short Power Boxes tutorial panel the first time you get close, explaining that shutting off a box cuts power to everything wired into the structure, in this case the gate. Close it and carry on. It has no bearing on the challenge, but it is a reliable sign you are in the right place.

Note: The orderly is the scarce resource here, not the pole. If you clear out everyone on the way down, you will arrive at a working execution spot with nobody to use it on.

How to execute an orderly on the telephone pole

Head down to the power box area with at least one orderly still alive nearby. Orderlies are the hospital staff carrying flashlights, and one usually stands out in the open near the pole itself.
Cut through the woods and come at him from behind. Approaching slowly and unseen builds your stalk, which is what lets you take hold of him instead of getting spotted.
Grab him. Do not press the normal execute input at this point, since a bare-hand kill ends the encounter and wastes the target.

Drag him toward the telephone pole. The HUD shows a grabbed indicator and a distance marker while you move, so you can walk him the last few meters without letting go.

Watch for the skull icon at the pole, which flags a Context Execution. Get close enough that the Rusty Impale label shows on the HUD, then press Interact. Michael impales the orderly on the pole and the challenge ticks over.

Challenge 3 reference and the Dark and Stormy reward

You will see a “CHALLENGE 3 COMPLETE” banner along with the “DARK AND STORMY” name the moment the kill animation resolves. That title is the reward, and it attaches to your profile for other players to see.

The last row is the one that catches people out. Completion pops during the run, but the progress is only written once the chapter ends. Quitting or restarting after the kill throws it away, so shut off the power box, pry the gate open, and reach the van before you do anything else.

Why the Rusty Impale prompt does not appear

There are only a few reasons the execution refuses to trigger, and all of them are fixable on the spot or on the next attempt.

  • You are at one of the other telephone poles in the level. Those do not host the interaction.
  • Every orderly in the area is already dead. Leave one alive on the approach to the power box.
  • You executed with bare hands instead of walking the grab over to the pole.
  • You are not close enough. The skull icon has to be visible and the prompt has to read Rusty Impale before Interact does anything.
  • You left the mission after the banner but before the escape, which resets the run’s progress.

Because the pole and the surviving orderly have to line up in the same place at the same time, it is worth treating this as something you set up on the way down rather than something you go back for. Spare one flashlight-carrying target as you work toward the gate, and Challenge 3 costs you about fifteen seconds when you get there.
