Haze Seas: How to Get the Gryphon Weapon From the Red Emperor Boss

Unlock Sea 3, cut the spawn timer with super boss kills, and farm the mythical Gryphon sword from Shanks.

Unlock Sea 3, cut the spawn timer with super boss kills, and farm the mythical Gryphon sword from Shanks.

The Gryphon is the mythical sword wielded by the Red Emperor (Shanks) in Haze Seas, and it only drops from that boss on Sea 3. Getting it means reaching the third sea, waiting out or shortening a long spawn timer, and then beating a Level 8,000 boss with two combat phases. The blade scales with your Weapon stat and comes with three moves once you own it.

Quick answer: Defeat the Sea 3 Red Emperor (Level 8,000). He has a 2.5% chance to drop the Gryphon. Cut his 4-hour spawn timer by killing the Saturn, Raijin, and Kaido super bosses (10 minutes off per kill, up to a 2-hour total reduction), then spawn and beat him.

Unlock Sea 3 first by beating Shanks on Sea 2

The Gryphon boss lives on Sea 3, so you need access to that sea before you can farm it. Sea 3 opened on July 4, 2026, and the entry gate runs through a Sea 2 boss fight against the same character.

On Sea 2, find the Gatekeeper and talk to them. Accept the quest they offer to challenge the Red Emperor.
Defeat the Sea 2 version of the Red Emperor (Shanks). Clearing this fight unlocks travel to Sea 3.

Note: Bring a strong late-game build for this. A Mythical fruit such as Dragon, Dough, or an awakened Saturn fruit handles the boss damage far better than early swords alone.

Cut the Sea 3 spawn timer with super boss kills

Once you arrive on Sea 3, the Red Emperor has a default 4-hour spawn timer. You do not have to wait it out in full. Each super boss you defeat removes 10 minutes from that timer, and you can stack this up to a maximum reduction of 2 hours.

Super bossLevelHow it spawns
Saturn Boss7,000Appears at Egg Island after clearing waves of raiders
Raijin5,000Spawned by charging four lightning pillars
Dragon Hybrid Boss (Kaido)5,000Summoned with a Trumpet at the Land of Gods

Killing all three trims 30 minutes total. To reach the full 2-hour cut, repeat these super boss runs as they become available and keep chipping the timer down before you commit to the Emperor fight.

Defeat the Sea 3 Red Emperor (Level 8,000)

When the timer reaches zero, the Level 8,000 Red Emperor spawns on Sea 3. This fight is tougher than the Sea 2 version and moves through two combat phases, so keep your healing and stamina ready for the transition.

Beating him guarantees Blade Fragments and rolls for the two rare rewards. The drops break down as follows.

DropChanceNotes
Blade Fragments100%Awards 2x per kill
Emperor Cape5%Accessory reward
Gryphon2.5%Mythical sword

Because the Gryphon is a rare roll, expect to repeat this boss multiple times. Every clear still gives you 2x Blade Fragments, so the runs are not wasted while you chase the sword.

How to confirm the Gryphon dropped

After the boss dies, check your inventory under the Swords category. The Gryphon appears there as a mythical blade when the roll succeeds. If only Blade Fragments and no cape or sword appear, the rare rolls simply failed for that run, and you can respawn the boss to try again.

Clearing the full route also unlocks a set of titles along the way, including “Dominion Over Red” for the Red Emperor and “God’s Judgement,” “Authority Denied,” and “Hybrid Slayer” for the super bosses. Those confirm each boss kill registered correctly even before the sword drops.
