Enhancing your Google Docs with additional fonts can make your documents more appealing and better suited for your needs. If the default fonts don’t offer the style you’re looking for, you can easily add more fonts directly from the Google Fonts library or by using an add-on.
Adding Fonts Using the Built-In Option
Google Docs provides access to a wide range of fonts through its built-in font selector. Follow these steps to add new fonts to your collection.

The fonts you’ve added will now be available in your font menu, sorted alphabetically. You can start using them in your document right away.
To find fonts in different scripts or styles, you can use the filter options in the ‘Fonts‘ dialog box. Click on the ‘Scripts‘ drop-down menu to choose fonts from specific language scripts like Greek or Latin.

Similarly, you can filter fonts by style using the ‘Show‘ drop-down menu to display only handwriting, monospace, serif fonts, and more. You can also sort the fonts by popularity, alphabetical order, or other criteria using the ‘Sort‘ option.

Add to Google Preferences →Adding Fonts to Google Docs Using an Add-On
If you’re looking for an easier way to access a large variety of fonts without manually adding them one by one, you can use the ‘Extensis Fonts’ add-on. This add-on provides access to the entire Google Fonts library directly within Google Docs.

Enabling the Extensis Fonts Add-On
After installing ‘Extensis Fonts’, you need to enable it within Google Docs to start using the additional fonts.

The ‘Extensis Fonts’ panel will open on the right side of the document, displaying all available fonts. You can now scroll through and select any font to apply it to your text.

Adding Fonts to Google Docs on Mobile
Currently, adding new fonts directly through the Google Docs mobile app is not supported. However, any fonts you add using the desktop version will be available for use on your mobile device.
Using Fonts Added on Desktop in Mobile
To access the fonts you’ve added on your computer while using the Google Docs app on your mobile device, open the document in the app and tap the pencil icon at the bottom to enable editing.

Tap on the ‘A‘ icon at the top to open the text formatting options.

In the text formatting menu, tap on the font name to see the list of available fonts, including those you’ve added from the desktop version.

Select the desired font by tapping on it, then tap the back arrow or anywhere outside the menu to return to your document and start typing with the new font.

Can You Upload Custom Fonts to Google Docs?
Unfortunately, Google Docs does not support uploading custom fonts from your computer. Since it’s a cloud-based application, you’re limited to the fonts available in the Google Fonts library. You can, however, access a wide variety of fonts provided by Google to meet most of your styling needs.
Enhancing your documents with additional fonts is straightforward using the methods above, allowing you to personalize your work and make it stand out.
