Ulfr Frostclaw is one of the first real wall checks in The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. You meet it in the Northern Caves fairly early on, and clearing it opens your path toward Minister Kaifried. The fight rewards patience and a clean blocking rhythm more than raw damage, so knowing its small attack pool is most of the battle.
Quick answer: Equip Sword and Spear, perfect-block the double claw swipe when Ulfr Frostclaw flashes red, move immediately to dodge the three lines of spikes, and dart in with charged spear hits between swipes. Once it drops to about 50% health, sidestep the fast icicle blasts as they narrow toward you, then finish it. Beating it drops a large pile of Magicite.
Where you fight Ulfr Frostclaw and what to bring
The first version of this fight takes place in the Northern Caves. A harder rematch against the same enemy type waits in the Ice Ruins much later in the game, and a Temple of Trials challenge run also recycles the boss. Ulfr is really a boss family, and tougher members like Ulfr Deathclaw appear later with more stars to mark their danger.
For the Northern Caves fight, Sword and Spear is the most reliable loadout. The spear lets you charge, stab in, and back out quickly, while the sword handles fast follow-up hits. Bombs work too, but only if you time the throw to land right as the boss closes in. Buy Healing Potions beforehand if you can, since you will likely take some chip damage.
During this first encounter you also have the princess with you, who can heal you. When that heal is on cooldown, your potions are your backup, so keep a few in reserve rather than spending them all early.

The boss has only a handful of moves, but they punish sloppy spacing. Learn the tells below and the whole fight becomes a loop of block, punish, and reposition.
| Attack | Tell | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Double claw slice | Flashes red, then slashes forward twice | Perfect-parry or block with your shield, then punish |
| Three spike lines | Vanishes, three icy lines crawl toward you | Start moving immediately to slip between them |
| Jumping attack | Leaps before striking | Stay mobile and reposition out of the landing |
| Icicle blast | Leaps and conjures a fast line of icicles | Move sideways as they appear and narrow toward you |
In the first half, Ulfr Frostclaw leans heavily on the double claw slice. The red flash is your parry window, so guard it cleanly, then land a few sword strikes or a charged spear stab and back off before the next swing. When it teleports away and the three spike lines crawl in, they move slowly, so simply walking out of their path keeps you safe.
If you prefer bombs, drop one at your feet while the boss glows so it detonates as Ulfr arrives, or throw it just before or after the slash. The spear is still the cleaner option for steady damage.

Handling the second phase at 50% health
Around half health, Ulfr Frostclaw begins leaping and immediately conjuring icicles. These travel very fast, so reacting late is rough. The trick is that the icicles spawn in a line and narrow toward a single spot, so the moment they start appearing, move out of their path early instead of waiting.
The steady rhythm that works here is simple. Move in after a double slash, get a couple of hits, then retreat to a safe distance. While Ulfr is stationary, lob bombs at it. Unless your blocking timing is excellent, expect to take some damage, so use the princess heal and potions to top up between punishes.
Once the boss falls, you collect a large pile of Magicite and the path to Minister Kaifried opens up. That Magicite confirms the kill and feeds straight into your Magicite Box for stronger weapon effects.
Ulfr Deathclaw differences for the later rematch
The later Ulfr Deathclaw fight plays out almost identically, but the boss keeps its old moves and stacks new ones on top. By then you have more health, weapons, and Faie abilities, though it also hits much harder.
| Frostclaw move | Deathclaw upgrade |
|---|---|
| Double claw slice | Also fires shadow crescents, so dodge the blasts |
| Icicle line | Becomes a shadow line |
| Icicles only in second half | Shoots shadow bombs in a line from the start |
| No bouncing projectiles | Ricocheting shadow mines bounce around the room after it reappears |
For Deathclaw, keep Faie’s Ignite applied so the boss takes consistent damage even while you reposition. With a decent sword and spear it stops being much of a threat, and clearing it gives you a Quiver that raises your Arrow count by 15 along with another stack of Magicite.
Treat both Ulfr fights the same way. Respect the red-flash parry, never stand still when the spikes or icicles appear, and pick your damage windows after a guarded slash. Get that loop down once and every member of the Ulfr family, from Frostclaw in the Northern Caves to the harder versions later, falls in line.
