How to Change Your Quincy Weapon in VV Ultimatum

Spirit Weapons lock at character creation, so here is how rerolling and the Evolved Spirit Weapon path actually work.

Spirit Weapons lock at character creation, so here is how rerolling and the Evolved Spirit Weapon path actually work.

Your Quincy weapon in VV Ultimatum is decided the moment you make your character. You pick one of eight Spirit Weapons during creation, and there is no menu later that lets you swap to a different one on the same character. That catches a lot of new Quincy players off guard once they realize the Sword they chose is the weapon they are stuck with for the whole run.

Quick answer: You cannot freely change a Quincy Spirit Weapon mid-game. To get a different one, create a new character and choose another weapon at creation. To make your current weapon stronger instead, evolve it into an Evolved Spirit Weapon by earning the Sanrei Glove and reaching Max Reiatsu.

Why Quincy Spirit Weapons are locked at creation

Weapon access in VV Ultimatum is tied to your race. Quincy choose a single Spirit Weapon when building the character, and that choice fixes your moveset, range, speed, and damage type for that save. The stats are not displayed on the selection screen, so the pick is made blind unless you already know how each weapon behaves.

There are eight options. Each leans into a different playstyle, which is why the choice matters so much when there is no in-game swap.

Spirit WeaponProfile
SwordBalanced all-rounder with no major weakness. Safest pick for new Quincy.
SpearLongest reach in the set. Strong for spacing, weaker up close.
LongswordSword-like comfort with more range and slightly lower damage.
GreatswordHigh damage and range, but slow swings that are easy to punish.
HammerBlunt, high-damage pressure weapon that rewards clean timing.
ClubSlow blunt weapon focused on posture damage rather than DPS.
RifleReliable range with below-average damage per hit.
RapierFast pokes with decent reach, held back by low damage.

If you want a clean default before committing to anything else, the Sword is the recommended starting choice because it never forces you into an awkward matchup.

How to change to a different Spirit Weapon

Since the weapon is bound to character creation, the only way to end up with a different Spirit Weapon is to start over with a fresh Quincy character and select the one you want. You will lose the progression on the old character, so this is worth doing early rather than after hours of farming.

Create a new Quincy character. On the weapon selection screen, choose the Spirit Weapon that matches your intended playstyle instead of the one you started with.
Confirm the choice. You know it worked because the new character spawns wielding that weapon and its moveset replaces your previous one.

Note: There is no respec or weapon-swap NPC for Quincy. If you want reach, pick Spear or Longsword at creation. If you want the most forgiving option, pick Sword.

How to upgrade your weapon to an Evolved Spirit Weapon

If you would rather keep your character and change how your weapon performs, the real upgrade path is the Evolved Spirit Weapon. This is a stronger version of your existing Spirit Weapon, and it is the closest thing to changing your weapon without rerolling.

Reach level 25 to earn the Soldat Cap. Quincy progression stays locked until you have it.
Complete missions from the Lieutenant. These are rated 1 to 3 stars, and you have to report each finished task back to the Lieutenant to gain progression EXP.
Once you have enough progression, the Lieutenant prompts you to obtain the Sanrei Glove. Buy the recipe from the NPC in Wandenreich for 300 Soul Tokens, then craft it.

Broken Quincy Medallion1
Frost Alloy1
Strange Essence2
Equip the Sanrei Glove. Your L key changes to “meditate,” which confirms the glove is active.
Keep completing missions and meditating until you hit Max Reiatsu. When you reach it, the Lieutenant rewards you with your Evolved Spirit Weapon, which replaces your base Spirit Weapon.

This is why the Sword is such a popular early pick. It is reliable enough to carry you through Lieutenant missions and Max Reiatsu farming until the evolved version comes online.

What happens after the Evolved Spirit Weapon

The final stretch of Quincy progression sends you to the Arctic Plains for the Securis boss fight. Beating it grants your Schrift and removes the Sanrei Glove, which ends your reliance on the glove and lets you gather Reishi past your old limit through Letzt Still.

So the practical takeaway is simple. You change a Quincy weapon by rerolling a new character, and you change how your weapon performs by evolving it. Pick carefully at creation, because everything after that point upgrades the weapon you chose rather than replacing it with a new type.
