How to Defeat the Dragonfly Boss in VV: ULTIMATUM

Read its three attack patterns, punish the slam recovery, and clear the Sweetwater Pass area boss.

The Dragonfly is an area boss buzzing around Sweetwater Pass on the Soul Society Outskirts in VV: ULTIMATUM. It is a large flying creature with fast aerial moves and a heavy ground slam, and it is one of the first fights after the tutorial that can punish an under-leveled character. The boss is built around three telegraphed attacks, so the fight is really about reading them, defending, and striking during one specific opening.

Quick answer: Bring a character around Lv5–15, dash sideways to dodge the Flying Charge, back away when it hovers for the AoE Slam, then rush in and combo during the brief recovery right after the slam lands. Repeat until its health is gone.

Where to find the Dragonfly Boss in VV: ULTIMATUM

The Dragonfly spawns in Sweetwater Pass, on the outskirts of Soul Society. There is a fixed route to reach it, and sprinting along the way helps you skip random monster encounters before you arrive.

How to find where the Dragonfly Boss is located in VV Ultimatum
Press U to teleport to Soul Society. You will spawn facing barrels with stairs on either side.
Turn around and run toward the forest area where torii gates line up to form a path. Red lamp posts along the way confirm you are heading in the right direction.
When the lamps stop appearing ahead, turn right to pick up more lamps. Follow them until they end again, then turn left. If the boss has spawned, you will see the Dragonfly buzzing around the area.

Dragonfly Boss attack patterns

Every safe opening comes from recognizing the move the boss is about to use. The Dragonfly has three core attacks, and each one has a clear tell.

AttackHow it worksResponse
Flying ChargeLifts off and rushes at you in a straight line for high damage.Dash to the side; the path is predictable.
AoE SlamRises higher than usual, then slams down to create a ground shockwave marked in red.Create distance and leave the red zone.
Tail AttacksQuick close-range tail swipes in a sweeping motion.Block or dodge backward when it gets close.

How to beat the Dragonfly Boss

The whole fight runs on a loop of deflect, parry, and dash until the boss exposes itself, then a burst of damage before you return to defending. Being at least Lv15 makes the attacks far easier to survive, and clearing the tutorial against Gelum first teaches you the green and orange deflect timing you will rely on here.

Watch for the lift-off into a straight rush. When the Dragonfly lines up the Flying Charge, dash sideways out of its lane. Because the trajectory is fixed, a single side dash avoids it cleanly.
When the boss hovers higher than normal, it is winding up the AoE Slam. Back off immediately and stay clear of the red shockwave area, since this hit deals the most damage if you stand in it.
Punish the slam. Right after the Dragonfly hits the ground it stays grounded and stunned for a few seconds. This is your biggest damage window, so rush in and land your best combo, then disengage before it recovers.
Repeat the cycle. Keep dashing through charges, retreating from slams, and chaining attacks after each landing until the boss is defeated.

Tip: If you are playing a Quincy, keep your distance and use ranged spirit weapons. The close-range tail swipes are awkward to deal with in melee, and staying back lets you keep dealing damage while avoiding them.

If the solo fight is too tough at a low level, you can team up with other players through the game’s official Discord server to clear it faster.

Dragonfly Boss rewards

Beating the Dragonfly grants EXP and, more importantly, area progression. Clearing it unlocks further content in Sweetwater Pass, opening the path toward the next area boss, King Croc, in The Marsh. Once the Dragonfly stops respawning and the zone opens up, you know the fight registered as complete.
