Track down four trophy creatures, free Tarrok in the Free Mine, and claim the orc standard.

The Banner of Banners is a Chapter 4 main quest in Gothic 1 Remake that hands you a single goal with several moving parts. To pass safely through the Orc Enclave, you need an Ulu-Mulu, a sacred orc standard the orcs all recognize. The catch is that only Tarrok, an imprisoned orc held in the Free Mine, can build one, and he won’t lift a finger until you bring him four trophies torn from some of the deadliest creatures in the Colony.

Quick answer: Speak to Ur-Shak after finishing A Shaman Shunned, kill a Fire Lizard, a Great Shadowbeast, a Swampshark Mother, and a Troll for their trophies, carry all four to Tarrok in the Free Mine beneath the New Camp, then beat him in the duel he starts and loot the Ulu-Mulu from his body.

Start the quest by talking to Ur-Shak

The quest opens once you have completed A Shaman Shunned. Find Ur-Shak near the castle ruins by Xardas’ tower and talk to him. He explains that the Orc Enclave can only be crossed without a fight by carrying an Ulu-Mulu, and that his friend Tarrok can make one for you. He then asks you to gather four rare monster parts before heading to the prison.

Note: Some players reach Tarrok first and find him too wounded to work. If that happens, backtrack toward a nearby minecrawler warrior and climb the rock ledge behind it to grab his orc medicine from a crevice, then return it to him before handing over trophies.

All four Ulu-Mulu trophy locations

Each ingredient comes from a single tough creature, and every one is marked on the in-game map. The table below lists the target, the trophy it drops, and where to hunt it. The Great Shadowbeast is the hardest of the four, so save it for when you are well equipped.

Fire Lizard at Shipwreck Beach

This is the easiest hunt, so it makes a good warm-up. Head to the eastern shoreline at Shipwreck Beach near the lighthouse Diego marks. The lizard patrols the sand and relies on a fire breath attack. Step back to let the breath finish, then move in for melee strikes. Loot the Tongue of Fire from the body once it falls.

Kill the lizard and loot it’s corpse for the trophy.

Great Shadowbeast near the waterfall

This fight is the real wall of the quest, and a summon makes it far easier. Fast travel to Xardas and buy a Summon Golem scroll, which costs 15 mana to cast. If your mana pool is too low, eat a mana-restoring herb such as Trollbane Nettle right before casting.

At the cave entrance, summon the Stone Golem and let it charge in to soak the beast’s aggression. While it is busy, hit the boss from behind with your strongest heavy weapon, and back off to heal the instant it turns on you. If you fight without help, parry its quick horn attack and its swipes, then punish with a full combo. The beast rarely uses the horn attack twice in a row. Grab the Horn after it dies.

Summon the Stone Golem to assist you against the Great Shadow Beast.

Swampshark Mother southeast of the Swamp Camp

Travel to the Swamp Camp and head to the back of the area, toward the water at the southeast corner. You may have to cut down some regular swamp sharks on the way. The Mother is much larger and noticeably whiter than the others, so she is easy to pick out. Her attacks are slow and easy to read. Take her down and loot the Teeth.

Troll in the northern mountains

The Troll waits in the Troll Canyon, the same northern area where you collected the Focus stone earlier. Cross the bridge, go up the hill, pass the cave, and climb the stone stairs to the top. Trolls have huge health pools and hit hard, so block every swing and answer with a single counter before the next attack. Loot the Tusks when it drops.

Tip: A known bug can make the Troll drop no loot on death. If that happens, reload your save and try a different spell type, such as Ball Lightning, which often avoids the loot bug caused by standard fire spells.

How to reach Tarrok in the Free Mine

With all four trophies in your pack, head to the New Camp and work your way into the Free Mine, the deep quarry behind the settlement. Red flags at the entrance make it easy to recognize. The route below keeps you on track through the tunnels.

Fast travel to the New Camp and move through the village, hugging the left wall the whole way. Pass the NPC named Wolf and enter the cave ahead of you.
Fast travel to the New Camp and move through the village.
Follow the linear tunnel down until it opens into the large quarry. Descend to the very bottom, where a closed gateway is guarded by human enemies including one named Jackal. Clear them out.
Look for the small room on the left near the gateway and turn the wheel inside to open the main gate. Walk through and follow the long spiral path downward.
Continue through more open sections with human enemies, dropping down levels as you go. Crouch under the low stone wall, head down the stairs, and deal with the spider enemies in the water.
Look to your right to spot Tarrok inside his prison cell. Save your game before you walk up to it, since players have reported the orc getting stuck inside the door geometry. A backup save lets you retry without losing progress.

Craft the Ulu-Mulu and beat Tarrok

Talk to Tarrok through the bars and hand over the tongue, horn, teeth, and tusks. He agrees to build the Ulu-Mulu and starts working. Crafting does not take long, and you can explore the area for missed loot while he finishes.

When the standard is ready, Tarrok turns hostile and challenges you to an honor duel for the weapon. This fight is far gentler than the trophy hunts. Block his strikes and counter, and he goes down quickly. Loot his body to claim the Ulu-Mulu.

The Banner of Banners is marked complete the moment the Ulu-Mulu enters your inventory, and you can now carry it through the Orc Enclave unchallenged. If Tarrok freezes mid-animation and refuses to build the standard, that is a known bug, so reload your earlier save and approach him again.
