Subject 8 is a Secret-tier unit added to Anime Expeditions with the Monster Clash update (3.5) on October 6, 2026. You earn it from the Monster Rift inside the Monster Clash Battle Event, then spend Sprites and Gold to turn it into its stronger Monster form. Its design is based on Kafka Hibino’s Kaiju form from Kaiju No. 8, while its Shiny model draws from Godzilla.

Quick answer: Clear a Monster Clash stage, wait for the 4% helicopter to land, ride it into the Monster Rift, and clear the Rift. Subject 8 drops at 100% on Rift clear.

How the Monster Rift drop works

Subject 8 does not drop from the normal Monster Clash stage. It only comes from the Monster Rift, a special stage that you reach through a helicopter that can appear after a clear. The helicopter is not guaranteed, so a full run can take several attempts.

  • Clearing a Monster Clash stage gives the helicopter a 4% base chance to fly onto the map.
  • Each Merged Monster you kill adds +0.2% to that chance, up to a maximum of +3%.
  • The helicopter spawn pity is 25, so the chance is guaranteed by the 25th qualifying clear.
  • Clearing the Monster Rift drops Subject 8 at 100%.

The stage does not auto-restart when the helicopter appears, so you can take your time before interacting with it. Only the host can start the trip into the Rift.

Steps to get Subject 8

In the lobby, find the Subject 8 (Monster) NPC and use it to enter the Monster Clash Battle Event. The stage runs 15 waves across two crossing paths and supports up to four players.
Clear the stage while killing as many Merged Monsters as possible. Placing your strongest units near the center lets you hit both lanes and build extra helicopter chance from those kills.
When the helicopter lands, have the host interact with it to teleport the team into the Monster Rift. Clear the Rift, and Subject 8 is added to your inventory.

Control Meter and Unbound passives

The Losing Control passive gives Subject 8 a Control Meter that starts at 0 and caps at 100. Every attack adds +15 and every takedown adds +1, so the meter fills faster the more it fights.

  • 25 stacks: attacks deal an extra instance of 30% of current damage.
  • 50 stacks: +30% AoE size and immunity to all status debuffs.
  • 75 stacks: -15% SPA and +20% range.
  • 100 stacks: unlocks Unbound.

Unbound runs for 20 seconds at a full meter, giving +50% damage, -15% SPA, and +20% AoE size. Enemies hit by Colossal Roar take 100% of current damage spread over five hits and grant all units in range a 20% Physical damage boost. When the timer ends, the Control Meter resets to 0 and starts building again.

Because the meter only climbs through combat, Subject 8 wants to be placed where it attacks constantly, such as the center of a Monster Clash map where both lanes feed into its range. That keeps the higher Control Meter tiers active and shortens the wait between Unbound windows.
