Armor in WARDOGS is not something you stumble across in a building. Helmets and body armor are vendor stock, bought with cash between lives, gated behind your WARDOG level, and paid for twice — once to unlock the tier permanently, then again every time you kit up.
Quick answer: Walk up to the Equipment Vendor in camp (blue gear icon on the map), press F to open the shop, switch to the Gear tab, then pick the Helmet or Armor sub-tab. Level 1 Helmet ($200) and Level 1 Armor ($400) are available from WARDOG Lvl 3 with no unlock fee.
Where to find the Equipment Vendor in WARDOGS
The Equipment Vendor is an NPC inside your camp, standing in the open rather than tucked inside a building. On the map and minimap the vendor is flagged with a blue gear and shopping icon, and walking close enough puts an F VENDOR prompt on screen with the “EQUIPMENT VENDOR” label above the character.
If you cannot see the icon, open the full tactical map and look for it near the vehicle and helicopter pads where most players spawn in.

F to open the shop. The vendor opens on a set of tabs — Overview, Equipment, Gear, Items and Loose Ammo.
Helmet and armor prices, levels, and unlock costs
Both slots run the same four-tier ladder, gated purely on WARDOG level at 3, 30, 60 and 100. The unlock cost is a one-time payment that opens the tier on your account. The price is what you hand over each time you actually buy the item.
| Item | Price | Weight | Level | Unlock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Helmet | $200 | 1 kg | 3 | — |
| Level 2 Helmet | $500 | 1.6 kg | 30 | $37,500 |
| Level 3 Helmet | $1,500 | 3 kg | 60 | $75,000 |
| Level 4 Helmet | $3,000 | 4.5 kg | 100 | $150,000 |
| Level 1 Armor | $400 | 3 kg | 3 | — |
| Level 2 Armor | $1,000 | 4.5 kg | 30 | $50,000 |
| Level 3 Armor | $2,000 | 10.5 kg | 60 | $100,000 |
| Level 4 Armor | $4,000 | 18 kg | 100 | $200,000 |
Note: new accounts sit under a new recruit discount that takes 50% off vendor prices and expires at WARDOG Lvl 9. The figures above are list prices, so early on you will see roughly half of them on screen, and the bill goes up once the discount runs out.
Gear and weapons draw from the same cash balance. Every plate you buy is money that did not go into a rifle, ammunition or a vehicle.
What each armor level protects and how much damage it stops
Armor does not work as a second health bar that has to be stripped before you take damage. Damage still lands on the protected zone; the plate reduces how much of it reaches your health. A hit to an unprotected limb ignores the armor completely.
| Tier | Damage reduction | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 Helmet | Low | Head |
| Level 2 Helmet | Medium | Head |
| Level 3 Helmet | High | Head and neck |
| Level 4 Helmet | Very High | Head and neck |
| Level 1 Armor | Low | Upper and lower torso |
| Level 2 Armor | Medium | Upper and lower torso |
| Level 3 Armor | High | Upper and lower torso |
| Level 4 Armor | Very High | Torso, upper arms, pelvis |
Community damage testing with a .308 FMJ round into the chest gives a rough feel for the gap between tiers. An unarmored chest hit landed 66.01 damage, Level 1 dropped it to 46.21, Level 2 to 39.61, Level 3 to 29.72 and Level 4 to 23.11 — about a 65% cut at the top of the ladder. Level 4 is also the only armor that covers the upper arms and pelvis, which removes some of the easy flesh hits around a torso.
Legs stay exposed at every tier, which is why heavy plates do not make you unkillable.
Weight classes: what armor costs you in mobility
Protection is paid for in kilograms, and the kilograms climb far faster than the protection labels. Level 1 to Level 2 Armor adds 1.5 kg. Level 2 to Level 4 adds 13.5 kg. Pair a Level 4 Armor with a Level 4 Helmet and you are carrying 22.5 kg before a single weapon goes in your hands.
Your whole loadout weight sets a class, and the class applies flat penalties.
| Class | Weight | Move | Stamina regen | ADS time | Sway |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lightest | 0–10 kg | — | — | — | — |
| Light | 10–17 kg | −5% | −15% | +5% | +2% |
| Medium | 17–27 kg | −13% | −35% | +6% | +8% |
| Heavy | 27–40 kg | −20% | — | +15% | +18% |
| Super Heavy | 40 kg+ | −20% | — | +17% | +20% |
The top two classes also slow how fast you lean. In practice, Level 1 and Level 2 are rotation armor, Level 3 suits short walks and a defended objective, and Level 4 is for a static role with transport waiting for you. Check the weight class before you leave camp — it is the last number that matters before you spawn.

Gear that does not stop bullets: vests, ghillie and backpacks
Three items in the Gear tab get mistaken for armor, and none of them reduce damage.
- Tac vests buy quickslots plus faster reloads and weapon swaps. Small Tac Vest costs $100 with no level requirement, Medium Tac Vest is $250 at Lvl 14, Large Tac Vest is $400 at Lvl 50.
- Ghillie gear sits in the helmet and armor slots but sells concealment, not protection. Ghillie Headwear runs $2,500 and Ghillie Body Suit $3,000, both gated at Recon Lvl 24.
- Backpacks are pure grid capacity. The Pouch is free with 6 slots, which is enough to avoid carrying nothing while you save up.
Helmet and Armor also each carry a Camouflage sub-tab, with cosmetic tiers gating at WARDOG Lvl 3, 30, 60 and 100. That is appearance, not an extra layer of plate.
Why an armor tier is locked at the vendor
If a card will not let you buy, it is one of three things:
- Your WARDOG level is below the gate printed on the card — 30, 60 or 100 for the armor and helmet ladder, or Recon Lvl 24 for ghillie pieces.
- You have hit the level but have not paid the one-time unlock cost for that tier yet.
- You have the tier unlocked but not enough cash for the buy price this life.
Once a purchase goes through, the item appears in the matching Gear slot in your inventory and your weight total jumps by the listed kilograms. If neither changes, the buy did not register and you should reopen the vendor and try again.
For most accounts the efficient move is Level 2 Armor with a matching helmet as soon as Lvl 30 lands, since it is only 1.5 kg heavier than Level 1 for a full tier more protection. The top of the ladder is a deliberate choice for holding ground, not a default upgrade.
