Mutations are the fastest way to boost your income in Mine a Mountain. A mutated crystal sells for more than its plain version, and when you place it on your plot it hands you a bigger luck boost. There are five mutations in total, and each one is tied to a specific bomb you throw at the mountain.
Quick answer: Buy an elemental bomb from the Bomb Shop and throw it at the mountain. Every crystal inside the blast radius has a 30% chance to gain that bomb’s mutation. Ice Bomb gives Frost, Fire Bomb gives Fire, Poison Bomb gives Poison, and Thunder Bomb gives Thunder. Radioactive only appears during the Admin Abuse event.
All five Mine a Mountain mutations and their multipliers
Four mutations spawn through normal play, and one (Radioactive) is locked behind a special event. Every mutation raises the crystal’s sale value and, separately, its luck boost when placed on your plot. Here is how each one performs.
| Mutation | Sale value | Luck boost | How to trigger |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frost | 1.5x | 1.4x | Ice Bomb, 30% chance in the blast radius |
| Fire | 1.6x | 1.4x | Fire Bomb, 30% chance in the blast radius |
| Poison | 1.6x, and it keeps rising while the crystal sits on the ground | 1.5x | Poison Bomb, 30% chance in the blast radius |
| Thunder | 1.7x | 1.5x | Thunder Bomb, 30% chance in the blast radius |
| Radioactive | 2.5x | 2.0x | Admin Nuke during the Admin Abuse event, 30% chance in the blast radius |
Poison is the outlier of the group. Its base sale bump is 1.6x, the same as Fire, but the value keeps climbing for as long as the crystal stays on the ground before you collect it. If you can afford to leave a Poison crystal sitting, it becomes worth more than its starting figure.

Every elemental bomb comes from the Bomb Shop at the Base. The shop restocks every few minutes and only carries a limited number of bombs per restock, so you cannot buy them in unlimited quantity. Check in regularly and grab what you need when stock appears.

Stacking two mutations on one crystal
A crystal can hold more than one mutation, but the pairing is restricted. The only valid combination is one natural mutation together with Radioactive. So a crystal that already has Thunder can still gain Radioactive, but it cannot pick up Frost, Fire, or Poison on top of Thunder.
When two mutations sit on the same crystal, their multipliers stack multiplicatively. You multiply the first mutation’s value by the second, rather than adding them. A Thunder crystal (1.7x) that also gains Radioactive (2.5x) reaches a combined 4.25x sale multiplier.
Which mutation is best
Radioactive is the strongest mutation overall. It carries the highest sale multiplier at 2.5x and the biggest luck boost at 2.0x. The catch is availability, since it only spawns during the Admin Abuse event when an admin drops an Admin Nuke.
For everyday farming, Thunder is the top pick among the mutations you can reliably create yourself. Its 1.7x sale value and 1.5x luck boost beat Frost, Fire, and Poison’s base numbers, and the Thunder Bomb is always available from the Bomb Shop. Chasing mutated crystals with these bombs is the most direct route to faster earnings and quicker progression.
