Soul Crystals in AION 2 look like a gear material, but they don’t upgrade weapons or armor. They pay for Genus Insight, the pet-family stat wheel in the Pets menu. Each analysis rerolls the bonuses on that family’s unlocked slots. Those bonuses apply to your character even when no pet is summoned, so a steady crystal supply turns directly into stats.
Quick answer: Craft 1,000 a week in Substance Morph, buy 3,000 a month in the Festival Trade Shop, open Hidden Cubes, and claim 100 at each pet collection milestone. Spend them under Pets > Genus Insight > Analyze.
What Soul Crystals are in AION 2
The Soul Crystal is a currency, not an inventory stack. It is Common grade, available from level 1, can’t be traded, and its only job is paying for Pet Genus Insight analysis. When you use a Soul Crystal (Bound) item from your bag, it adds one crystal to a running total. That total never uses bag space. You can find it in the top-right corner of the Genus Insight screen.
There are six kinds. Four field families and the Special family each have their own colored crystal. The plain rainbow Soul Crystal is a wildcard that substitutes for any of them. The family crystals are Special grade usable items, can’t be traded, and each one grants a single crystal of its type.
| Crystal | Color | Spent on | Farmable from field mobs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue | Cogni Insight | Yes | |
| Red | Fera Insight | Yes | |
| Green | Natura Insight | Yes | |
| Yellow | Varian Insight | Yes | |
| Light blue | Special Insight | No | |
| Rainbow | Any family | No (wildcard) |
Some sites spell Varian as “Varlan.” It’s the same crystal. Genus Insight progress is shared by every character on your server, so crystals your main spends also improve your alts.

No field monster drops Special family crystals. They come from Duty quests, Hidden Cubes, quest rewards, and the battle pass, which keeps them scarce.

Match each colored crystal to its family, and keep rainbow wildcards for the Special wheel. Farming can replenish the other four wheels, but no field activity restores Special.

No single farming spot hands out every type. You get the most by combining the capped repeatable sources with one-time bundles, then topping up from daily activities.
| Source | Payout | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Substance Morph | 1 per 500 Kina | 1,000 per week |
| Festival Trade Shop | 100 per 50 Centuryroot Tokens | 30 buys per month |
| Hidden Cubes | Up to 1,000 per cube | Per cube found |
| Pet collection milestones | 100 per milestone | One-time, 1,700 total |
| Fossa regional quests | 10 Soul Crystal (Bound) | One-time |
| Pet and Insight achievements | 10 to 15 per tier | One-time |
| Surplus pet souls | Matching family crystal | After pet hits max level |
| Level 45 growth dungeon mobs | Wildcard, 5.8% per kill | Repeatable |
The Odylium Repository daily dungeon, Daily Duty Quests, the Daeva Pass, seasonal challenges, and daily login rewards also give crystals in smaller or variable amounts. They are covered further down.
Repeatable Soul Crystal caps: Substance Morph and the Festival Shop
These two sources reset on a schedule and together supply 7,000 crystals in a four-week month. Max them out before you do anything else.
Craft Soul Crystals in Substance Morph
A complete week requires 500,000 Kina. The allowance refreshes at 09:00 every Wednesday; crafting for four weeks yields 4,000 crystals.
Buy Soul Crystals with Centuryroot Tokens
Shugo Festival rewards are Centuryroot Tokens, not crystals. Spend them at the Festival Trade Shop in the Consumable section: 50 tokens buys 100 Soul Crystals. Each character can make this purchase 30 times per month, for a total of 3,000 crystals at a cost of 1,500 tokens.
Pet collection milestones (100 Soul Crystals each)
Collecting new pets is the largest one-time source of wildcard crystals. Most collection milestones pay 100 Soul Crystal (Bound). Every 50th pet pays 10 Empathy Candy instead.
| Pets collected | Reward |
|---|---|
| 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 | 100 Soul Crystal (Bound) each |
| 50 | 10 Empathy Candy (Bound) |
| 60, 70, 80, 90 | 100 Soul Crystal (Bound) each |
| 100 | 10 Empathy Candy (Bound) |
| 110, 120, 130, 140 | 100 Soul Crystal (Bound) each |
| 150 | 10 Empathy Candy (Bound) |
| 160, 170, 180, 190 | 100 Soul Crystal (Bound) each |
| 200 | 10 Empathy Candy (Bound) |
The 17 crystal milestones grant 1,700 wildcards altogether. A pet needs just five souls to unlock, and most creatures you can farm provide one soul per kill, making the first milestones quick to reach. Speed up progress by pursuing pets you have not unlocked instead of farming one monster over and over.
Farm family Soul Crystals from surplus pet souls
Field monsters provide colored family crystals through their pet souls. After a pet hits its level cap, extra souls for that pet are converted into a Soul Crystal for its genus. As a result, previously used farming zones remain worthwhile once you have completed the pet.
The Marsh Targon shows how the numbers work. It’s a Varian pet that unlocks at 5 souls. Level 2 takes another 25 souls and level 3 takes another 75, so 105 souls in total. At level 2 it grants Evasion Bonus +1. At level 3 it grants Evasion Bonus +2 and Constitution +1, and you can transform into it. After that, every further Marsh Targon soul becomes Varian crystal stock.

The creature itself is a level 14 aggressive Varian. It spawns at 89 points across the Ellun River Marsh and Contaminated Marsh in Verteron, and every kill can drop Soul: Marsh Targon (Bound).

To find the right target for any pet, open Pets, select the pet, and check its Source details. The panel names the enemy and the area where it spawns.
Hidden Cubes, dungeons, and daily Soul Crystal drops
Hidden Cubes
Hidden Cubes are scattered across the map. You can spot them by their red glow, and they are often tucked near cliffs and ruins. A cube can pay out 1,000 Soul Crystals along with bundles of pet souls. Some cubes require a Key: Hidden Cube (Bound), so check the requirement before you travel to one. Keys come from these sources:
- Quests and achievements
- Season Shop, Consumables section
- A2 Mileage and Tsenka Merchant shops, Consumables section
- Monoliths
- Daily Attendance and reward chests
Odylium Repository and growth dungeons
You can enter daily dungeons starting at level 30. One option is the Odylium Repository, where a run rewards several pet chests, crystals, and pet souls. At level 45, kills in certain enemy groups in the Fafnite Amphitheater and Silent Graveyard growth dungeons each have a 5.8% chance of dropping a wildcard Soul Crystal (Bound). The groups include Addicted Shulak Worker, Ore Insectoid, and Faded Mutant.
Duties, Daeva Pass, and login rewards
Some Daily Duty Quests offer family crystals, including Special crystals; inspect the reward slots for each Duty before accepting it. Soul Crystals appear at several levels of the Ishalgen Mercenary Daeva Pass, with larger quantities on the paid track. To collect them, open the main menu, select Subscribe (or press G on PC), go into the Ishalgen Mercenary pass, and claim the rewards. Daily login rewards and seasonal challenges provide smaller quantities. Treat these as extra supplies, since they do not take the place of the weekly and monthly caps.
Achievements
Pet and Genus Insight achievement tiers pay wildcard crystals, starting at 10 per tier and rising to 15 in the higher tiers. Open the main menu, select Achievement, and press Collect All. The claimed rewards pop up in the bottom-right corner. If your total doesn’t change, you have no finished pet-related entries to claim yet.
Missing Mount quest: 10 Soul Crystals for Asmodians
Each faction has a one-time Fossa quest that pays 10 Soul Crystal (Bound). Asmodians get Missing Mount, which Hadala gives at Safe Haven in Altgard. Elyos get Searching for an Escaped Fossa, which Hithanya gives at the Dawn Legion Base in Verteron. Missing Mount unlocks at level 10 and recommends level 16. The story starts when a tamed Fossa bolts and Dinoh, who isn’t much of a fighter, chases after it alone.

| Missing Mount reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| x10 | |
| Kina (Bound) | x14,000 |
| Wisdom Stone (Bound) | x1 |
| x1 | |
| Title: Lingering Warmth | x1 |

How to use Soul Crystals in Genus Insight
After unlocking an analysis, each roll costs 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina. Spend crystals from the corresponding family or substitute wildcards; the roll changes the stat in every unlocked slot on that family’s wheel. It also contributes to the genus EXP bar. With every Insight level, you gain an additional node slot and better chances of rolling higher-grade stats. Check the Analyze button for the next roll’s cost before proceeding.
Genus Insight lock costs
Locking a slot keeps its stat through future rolls, but it makes every later roll on that wheel more expensive, and the price climbs steeply.
| Locked slots | Crystals per roll | Kina per roll |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 4 | 1,000 |
| 1 | 8 | 2,000 |
| 8 | 396 | 99,000 |
Roll without locks while you’re leveling a wheel. Save locks for Yellow or Orange stats you plan to keep once your build is settled.
How to confirm the analysis worked
A successful roll changes the stats on the wheel’s nodes, such as Cogni Attack, Cogni Defense, HP or MP, and moves the EXP bar forward. When the bar fills, an “Achievement Unlocked” banner appears, for example “Cogni Pet Genus Insight Level Up” with “Achieved Cogni Insight to Lv.3.” A new node slot then opens on the wheel. Because Insight progress is tied to your server, every character you log into there gets the same slots and bonuses.
