How to Get Syra’s Recipe for Snaf in Gothic 1 Remake

Unlock the Double, Double recipe by solving Syra's Bullit problem, then gather every stew ingredient for Snaf.

Unlock the Double, Double recipe by solving Syra’s Bullit problem, then gather every stew ingredient for Snaf.

Snaf wants the camp’s best stew, and the only person who knows it is Syra, the enslaved cook inside the Old Camp castle. The recipe is part of the Double, Double quest, and Syra will not simply hand it over to a stranger. The trick is doing a favor for her first, then collecting the right ingredients for Snaf.

Quick answer: Get the Double, Double quest from Snaf, complete the Bully For Bullit quest for Syra, then return and ask her for the recipe. She refuses at first, but after you back off she changes her mind and gives it to you.

Find Syra in the Old Camp castle

Syra stays inside the Old Camp’s castle courtyard. You need clearance from Thorus and Diego before the gate opens to you. Once you have access, enter through the gate with Thorus and keep to the right side of the courtyard.

You will see fighters training with swords. Syra’s kitchen is the door at the far end, just left of that training area’s entrance once you pass Thorus. If she is not inside, check the bench in front of the door, where she sometimes sits. You can also follow the castle wall down to a ladder on your left that leads to the dungeon, with the kitchen on the right.

Some players hit an invisible wall on the way to her. If a barrier blocks your path, hug the left side to slip past it. The wall also clears on its own, so come back at a different time of day if you are stuck.

Start the Double, Double quest with Snaf

The recipe hunt begins with Snaf, not Syra. The main castle area opens up after you finish the Casting Shadows quest in the Old Camp. Once you can reach the courtyard, talk to Snaf and he hands you the Double, Double quest.

This recipe is Gomez’s favorite stew, made only for him and his top men, so it is a guarded secret. Snaf is desperate for it and sends you to the castle cook because you can reach her and he cannot.

Warning: Do not grab the recipe from the kitchen before Snaf gives you the quest. Taking it early breaks the questline, and you will be locked out of finishing it.

Once you can reach the courtyard, talk to Snaf and he hands you the Double, Double quest.

Get the recipe from Syra

You can ask Syra for the recipe straight away, but she does not know or trust you and turns you down. The way to earn it is to solve her own problem first.

Take on the Bully For Bullit quest. Syra has been harassed by Bullit, the warder you have likely already crossed paths with. Deal with him on her behalf.
Return to Syra and tell her Bullit has been handled. With her problem solved, she is willing to help you.
Ask her about the recipe. She still says no at first. Accept the refusal and end the topic. She then reconsiders and hands the recipe over.

You will know it worked when Syra gives you the recipe in dialogue and the quest updates, pointing you back to Snaf.

Bring Snaf the stew ingredients

Take the recipe back to Snaf, and he asks you to gather the ingredients so he can cook the stew and teach you the recipe. You need two of each item below.

IngredientAmountWhere to get it
Carrots2Found all over the Old Camp or bought from most vendors
Strong Beer2Purchased from Fletcher at the Old Camp
Raw Meat2Dropped by defeating creatures
Mistcap Mushrooms2Grow by rivers and in caves, or buy from Fortuno at Swamp Camp for 5 ore nuggets each
Cavern Dewleaf2Found on cave walls, or buy from Baal Cadar at Swamp Camp for 8 ore nuggets each

Once you have all ten items, return to Snaf. He prepares the stew and teaches you how to make it yourself.

Get two of each of the required items.

If Snaf says something is missing

A common snag is bringing the wrong beer. The recipe needs Strong Beer specifically, and ordinary beer does not count, so double-check the exact item name before you hand it over. Buying it from Fletcher avoids any mix-up.

The other frequent issue is Raw Meat. If you have already cooked all your meat, Snaf will not accept it. Keep two pieces uncooked and farm more from creatures if needed. Confirm you are holding two of every ingredient rather than a large stack of one, since the quest only completes when the full set is present.
