How to Get The Egoist (Isagi) in Universal Tower Defense Z

The Egoist is the Isagi Yoichi unit added to Universal Tower Defense Z in Update 4.25: Universal Footballers. It is a Secret-rarity unit, and you claim it by working through the “Despair Of Defeat: Awaken your Ego” trial rather than pulling it from a banner.

Quick answer: Open the Trials tab under Quests, start “Despair Of Defeat: Awaken your Ego,” then talk to the Footballer NPC, score 10 goals in the Universal Football mode, and find all 4 hidden Puzzle Pieces in the lobby. Claim The Egoist from the trial menu once those tasks show as complete.

Despair Of Defeat trial requirements

The trial is found in the Quests menu under the Trials section, listed as “Despair Of Defeat: Awaken your Ego” for the unit Isagi. It has six tracked objectives. The core tasks needed to reach the claim point involve the lobby NPC, goal scoring, and the puzzle pieces.

Steps to unlock The Egoist

Head into the lobby and find the Footballer NPC, which is Isagi. Interact with him to clear the first trial task. This is the entry step that opens up the rest of the objectives.

Enter the Universal Football game mode from the stage selection menu. Every 5 completed waves, normal combat pauses and a playoff begins, with the ball starting at the goalkeeper and moving toward a striker. Passes compare the passer against the closest enemy, and reaching a striker starts a shot.

When the shot prompt appears, you have 12 seconds to aim at a goal corner. Score across matches until you reach 10 goals total. On enemy attacks, press SPACE to time a save and protect your lead.

Return to the lobby and search for the 4 hidden Puzzle Pieces. They are placed in different spots across the lobby map, so walk the full area and check corners and props until all four are collected.

Open the Trials menu again. With the Footballer talk, the 10 goals, and all 4 Puzzle Pieces marked complete, claim The Egoist directly from the trial screen. The unit is added to your inventory once claimed.

Note: A win with 5 Boundless units on the field is one of the tracked tasks, so build a Football team using Boundless units before starting a match to knock out that objective in the same run as your goal scoring.

Evolve Blue Rose for the full trial

Two later trial steps ask you to evolve Blue Rose and then perform the Devil’s Contract Chemical Reaction. The evolution is handled at the Evolutions area in the lobby, turning Blue Rose into Blue Rose (Reborn).

Sealed Rose and Footballs both come from clearing Universal Football matches, so keep running the mode until you have the 10 Footballs and the Sealed Rose the evolution needs. Once the materials are ready, select Blue Rose in the Evolutions area to complete the upgrade.

Trigger the Devil’s Contract Chemical Reaction

Devil’s Contract is the Chemical Reaction fusion between Blue Rose (Reborn) and The Egoist. To trigger it, place both units next to each other on the field during a match. The game merges them into the Devil’s Contract unit, which carries the Goal Bet, Calculated Play, and Devil’s Contract passives.

Completing this fusion clears the final Chemical Reaction objective in the trial. You will know it worked when the two units combine on the board and the Devil’s Contract stat panel appears.

Resources that speed up the trial

Universal Football matches reward Sealed Rose, Football Currency, Gems, and Universal Gems on a win, which feed both the evolution and the shop. The Universal Footballers shop, opened through the Blue Rose NPC, spends Football Currency on Trait Rerolls, Stat Rerolls, Stat Locks, and units such as Regina Wolf, Fire Tornado, and Dragon Wings.
