How to Get The Guide in Neverness to Everness (NTE)

How to Get The Guide in Neverness to Everness (NTE)

The Guide is a special item in Neverness to Everness that follows your character around and points toward nearby treasures, chests, and hidden furniture in the open world. It works regardless of elevation and surfaces collectibles that are not flagged by the Oracle Stone tracker, which makes it one of the most useful exploration tools in the game. You unlock it by completing a short side interaction at Cleimo Academy that involves helping a student called the Irritated Student find the Occult Research Club.

Quick answer: Enter Cleimo Academy at 22:00 in-game time, talk to The Guide inside the school, fast-forward to 8:00 the next morning, help the Irritated Student locate the Occult Research Club in the nearby classrooms, then return to The Guide to claim it.

Requirements before starting

The encounter takes place inside Cleimo Academy in the open world. You need access to the area and the in-game Time Management feature so you can shift the clock to specific hours. No combat or boss fight is involved, but the school is gated by time, so you cannot trigger the dialogue during normal daytime hours on a first attempt.

Get into Cleimo Academy at night

Step 1: Travel to Cleimo Academy and approach the building from the front. Walk around to the right side and continue to the rear, where there is an opening that lets you slip inside the school grounds without using the locked main entrance.

Step 2: Open Time Management and set the clock to 22:00. The academy only becomes accessible for this interaction at night, so skipping ahead is the fastest way to trigger the scene.

Step 3: Enter the academy through the rear opening. Once inside, head to the area where a small, glowing object is sitting on the floor. This is The Guide itself, presented as a shiny anomaly.

Trigger the Irritated Student dialogue

Step 1: Interact with The Guide and choose the first dialogue line, which begins with "Excuse me." This opens up the side interaction but does not yet hand the item over.

Step 2: Open Time Management again and advance the clock to 08:00 the following morning. The student you need to help only appears during school hours.

Step 3: Speak with the Irritated Student nearby. She tells you she is looking for the Occult Research Club and asks for help finding it.

Find the Occult Research Club

Step 1: From The Guide's spot, head left, then take another left into the classroom corridor. The Occult Research Club is set up in one of the regular classrooms along this hallway.

Step 2: Step inside the Occult Research Club room. You can chat with the members if you want, but talking to them is not required to progress the quest. Confirming the location is enough.

Step 3: Return to the Irritated Student and tell her where the club is. Her dialogue updates to show she is satisfied with the directions.

Claim The Guide

Walk back to the floating orb and interact with it again. The Guide is added to your inventory as a special item, and the orb that was sitting in the academy now follows your character in the field. You will know the unlock worked because the small glowing companion appears next to you, and the item shows up in your inventory under special or important items.

How to use The Guide in the field

The Guide does not work automatically once it is in your bag. You have to assign it to the radial quick-access wheel before it becomes active in the open world.

Step 1: Open your inventory and locate The Guide under the special items section.

Step 2: Assign The Guide to a slot in the fast access (radial) menu so it can be summoned during exploration.

Step 3: While exploring, open the radial menu and activate The Guide. The floating companion will spawn next to your character and point in the direction of the closest unclaimed item, including chests, collectibles, and hidden furniture pieces. It picks up loot above and below your current elevation, so it works inside multi-floor buildings as well as on rooftops.

What The Guide actually finds

The Guide is built for exploration loot rather than quest objectives. It surfaces open-world pickups that are not already marked on the map by the Oracle Stone system, which is the main reason it feels so strong once unlocked.

DetectsDoes not detect
Open-world chestsQuest-required items already pinned by the active quest
Hidden furniture for housingOracle Stones (these use a separate finder unlocked via the Witch)
Small collectibles and pickupsField bosses and Anomaly encounters
Loot at higher or lower elevationsNPCs or shops

Common reasons it does not unlock

  • You entered the academy during the day, and the orb is not visible. Set Time Management to 22:00 and re-enter through the rear opening.
  • You spoke to The Guide but skipped past the first dialogue option. The "Excuse me" line is what starts the chain.
  • You did not advance the time to 08:00 before looking for the Irritated Student. She does not spawn at night.
  • You returned to The Guide before talking to the student a second time after locating the club. The reward only triggers once she has been told where the Occult Research Club is.

The Guide pays for itself almost immediately because it points you at chests and furniture pieces that would otherwise require checking interactive maps or sweeping each district by hand. Pick it up early, slot it into the radial wheel, and run it whenever you arrive in a new area to clean up loot before moving on.
