The Obsidian Fang is one of the earliest damage relics in Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. You can grab it as soon as Joan is down. It sits in a chest in the Guard Level of the Prison Tower in Paris Streets, at the bottom of a spike-lined shaft. Clearing that shaft takes careful wall jumps and well-timed bursts of Holy Light.
Quick answer: Beat Joan, get Holy Light at Stairs to the Tower Roof, then go down through Torture Level to Guard Level. Clear the spike shaft above the chest with Holy Light and open the chest.
What the Obsidian Fang does
Whenever Rose shatters an opponent’s guard, Obsidian Fang gives her a damage increase of 45% for 3 seconds. The boost then expires, making rapid follow-up attacks more effective than a slow, cautious approach. Rose needs the relic in one of her three relic slots for it to work.
| Field | Obsidian Fang |
|---|---|
| Type | Relic |
| Area | Paris Streets |
| Trigger | Rose’s damage increases by 45% for 3 seconds when she breaks an opponent’s guard. |
| Bonus | +45% damage |
| Duration | 3 seconds |
The item’s description says the talisman came home with young mercenaries from distant lands, and that it brought either fortune or doom.

You can’t reach the chest without Holy Light. Chaos Shard blocks seal both the way down the tower and the shaft above the chest, and Holy Light is the only tool that clears them. You get the ability right after defeating Joan on the Roof of the Tower. These records cover that fight and the unlock:

| Record | Joan (boss) |
|---|---|
| Location | Paris Streets, Roof of the Tower |
| Health | 1800 |
| Attack | 24 |
| XP | 600 |
| Arcana card | |
| Rewards | Infernal Pyre, The Warrior’s Key |
Joan is immune to freeze, petrify, launch into the air, slam down, Chains of Justice root and stun, Chronomantic Dive slow, Freezing Path link and Infernal Pyre launch. Build your damage plan around standard hits, not crowd control.
You receive Holy Light in the Stairs to the Tower Roof district of Paris Streets. Keeping the button held creates a halo around Rose; any Chaos Shard that contacts it is destroyed. A quick press immediately before an attack connects triggers a light parry, preventing its damage. C is the keyboard’s default key.
Route from the Roof of the Tower to Guard Level

Obsidian Fang secret chest: the Guard Level spike shaft
In Guard Level, the chest sits in a small alcove under a vertical shaft. Spikes line the shaft walls, and Chaos Shard blocks are mixed in with them. You can’t walk to the chest directly. You have to climb up and then come back down from above. The trick is that Holy Light breaks Chaos Shards the instant it is on, and some of those blocks are the platforms you need to stand on. Only switch it on when you want a block gone.

Most failed runs come from holding Holy Light too long. If a block you meant to land on breaks, short taps in the air are the fix.
Confirming and equipping the Obsidian Fang
Opening the chest brings up an item notification naming the Obsidian Fang and its guard-break damage effect. It then shows up in the Relics menu, where you can check it and put it in one of Rose’s three slots. Once it is equipped, break any enemy’s guard and the 45% damage window starts on its own.
