Marking podcasts as ‘Played’ has quite a few benefits for a regular podcast listener. It’s a great feature if your Spotify doesn’t register completed episodes and continues playing the same, or if you want to hide a couple of episodes for other reasons.

Marking podcast episodes as ‘Played’ is available on desktop and mobile applications. Here’s how you can mark an episode as ‘Played’ on both.

Marking Podcast Episodes as ‘Played’ on Spotify Desktop App

Launch Spotify on your computer, click the ‘Your library’ option to the top left of the screen, and select the ‘Podcasts’ tab to the right. Now locate the podcast containing the episode you want to mark as ‘Played’ and click to open it.

Once you find the podcast episode you want to mark as ‘Played’, hover the cursor over it and click the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots). Then, select ‘Mark as Played’ from the drop-down menu.

You will now see a ‘Played’ label with a green tick mark on the chosen episode. If you still notice the episode to be fresh and unplayed when you open it (essentially, if marking the episode as ‘Played’ didn’t work), here’s an alternative.

The Alternative. Open the episode from the podcast’s list, and click to open it. Next, click the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) below the episode’s credentials and choose ‘Mark as played’ from the context menu.

The episode now stays played. You will no longer hear it when you shuffle the podcast.

Marking Podcasts Episodes as ‘Unplayed’ on Spotify Desktop App

Unmarking an episode as ‘Played’ takes the same procedure and time as marking it as played. Reach the episode you marked as played and hover the cursor over the episode in the podcast’s series. Click the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) on the episode and select ‘Mark as unplayed’ from the menu.

Alternatively, you can also open the particular episode and then click the ellipsis icon (three horizontal dots) below the episode’s credentials. Select ‘Mark as unplayed’ from the menu.

The episode is now fresh and will appear as you shuffle through the podcast.

When you mark an episode as ‘Played’, you will instantly get a notification at the bottom of the screen along with a ‘Mark more’ button. Tap this button (be quick about it) if you want to mark more episodes as ‘Played’.

On the following screen, you can choose to mark all episodes as ‘Played’ by tapping the radio button in front of the first option ‘Mark all as played’. You can also mark individual episodes as ‘Played’ by tapping the radio button next to the episode you want to mark as ‘Played’. The radio button, in both cases, ought to turn green with a tick mark.

Once done, hit the ‘Done’ button at the bottom of the screen.

Your chosen episode(s) is now marked as ‘Played’ and would henceforth not interrupt while shuffling through your podcast(s).

Alternatively, you can also open the podcast’s episode and mark it as ‘Played’. For this, tap the episode to get a full-screen view of it and then, tap the ellipsis icon (three vertical dots) to the top right corner of the screen.

And the episode is now marked as ‘Played’.

You will receive a brief notification when you mark an episode as ‘Played’ using this method. Here, you can instantly undo the marking and keep the episode fresh by clicking the green ‘Undo’ button to the right of the notification.

Marking Episodes as ‘Unplayed’ on Spotify Mobile App

You can mark episodes as ‘Unplayed’ either directly from the podcast’s list or from the particular episode’s screen.

To unmark an episode as ‘Played’ from the podcast’s list, tap the ellipsis icon (three vertical dots) below the intro of the episode that needs to be unmarked.

Now, choose ‘Mark as unplayed’ from the following menu.

To mark an episode as unplayed from the episode’s screen, first tap to open the particular played episode or the episode marked as ‘Played’. Then, tap the ellipsis icon (three vertical dots) to the top right corner of the screen.
