Quick Info
  • X (previously, Twitter) has automatically enabled a setting that allows the platform to use your posts, user interactions, as well as chats with Grok for training and fine-tuning purposes.
  • There was no intimation from the platform that it was going to start training its AI on user data, which has caused quite an outrage.
  • You can disable the setting and opt out of the platform using your data to train the AI.
  • While the option is absent on the X mobile app, it can be achieved from the desktop version of X.
  1. Navigate to x.com from your browser and sign in to your account. Then, click on 'More'.
  1. Select 'Settings and privacy' from the menu.
  1. Then, go to 'Privacy & Safety'.
  1. Scroll down slightly and click on 'Grok' under the 'Data Sharing and Personalization' section.
  1. Then, uncheck the option for 'Allow your posts as well as your interactions, inputs, and results with Grok to be used for training and fine-tuning'.
  1. You can also delete your conversation history with Grok (if any) by clicking the 'Delete conversation history' button if you want.

Things to Know:

  • The setting will be enabled for your account regardless of whether you're a Grok user or not.
  • Notably, access to Grok AI is available only for X Premium or Premium+ users.
  • The option to opt out of training Grok AI will also be available on the mobile app soon.

It seems like it's becoming the norm for social media platforms to become hungry for user data as their reserves of quality data for training their LLM models begin to dry out. Previously, Meta started using users' data from its platforms like Facebook and Instagram for training its AI. At least, X has made it easier to opt out of training Grok, unlike Meta who's not only made it unfairly difficult to access the option but also has made no guaratees that the user request will be fulfilled.
