If you frequently use multiple Bluetooth devices with your Windows 11 PC, you may find it challenging to distinguish between them. Windows often assigns generic names to connected Bluetooth devices, incorporating the vendor's name and product model, which can make identification difficult when several devices are connected simultaneously. Fortunately, you can rename your Bluetooth devices on Windows 11 to make them easier to identify. Here's how you can do it.

Connecting a Bluetooth device

Before renaming a Bluetooth device, you need to ensure it's connected to your Windows 11 PC. Turn on your Bluetooth device and make it discoverable, then follow these steps to connect it to your computer.

Step 1: Open the Settings app by clicking on the Start menu and selecting Settings, or by pressing Win + I. In the Settings window, select 'Bluetooth & devices' from the left-hand menu.

Step 2: Toggle the Bluetooth switch to 'On' if it's not already enabled. Then, click on the 'Add device' button to start pairing a new device.

Step 3: In the 'Add a device' window, select the type of device you want to add. For Bluetooth devices like keyboards, mice, or headphones, choose the first option: 'Bluetooth'. If you're adding a wireless display or dock, select the second option. For other kinds of devices, such as Xbox controllers, choose the third option.

Step 4: Windows will begin searching for available Bluetooth devices. When your device appears in the list, click on it to start the pairing process. Once paired successfully, your device will appear under the 'Other devices' section.

Renaming your Bluetooth device

After connecting your Bluetooth device, you can rename it to something more recognizable. Here's how to change the device name.

Step 1: In the 'Bluetooth & devices' settings page, scroll down and click on 'More devices and printer settings' under the 'Related settings' section.

Step 2: This will open the 'Devices and Printers' window in the Control Panel. Locate your Bluetooth device in the list of devices. Right-click on the device and select 'Properties' from the context menu.

Step 3: In the device's Properties window, switch to the 'Bluetooth' tab. Here, you'll see the current name of your Bluetooth device.

Step 4: To rename the device, simply type the new name into the 'Name' field. After entering the desired name, click 'Apply' and then 'OK' to save the changes.

If the new name doesn't appear immediately, you may need to disconnect and reconnect the device for the changes to take effect.

By customizing the names of your Bluetooth devices, you can easily identify and manage them on your Windows 11 PC. If you ever wish to revert to the original name, you can remove the device and pair it again; Windows will assign the default name upon reconnecting.
