People of all professions spend a lot of time browsing the web for work and research purposes. The pro among us mostly use keyboard shortcuts to increase their productivity, but not all of us are very pro and many even despise using keyboard shortcuts. So, that’s where mouse gestures come in.

You can add gestures to Google Chrome to make your work easier and faster. There are many extensions on the Chrome Web Store that enable mouse gestures in the browser. We found the CrxMouse Chrome Gestures extension among the best with its list of features and customizability options.

Setting up Mouse Gestures in Chrome

Without installing an extension, setting mouse gestures on Chrome is impossible. You need to install the ‘CrxMouse Chrome Gestures’ Chrome extension to set mouse gestures in the browser.

Go to chrome.google.com/webstore and search for ‘CrxMouse Chrome Gestures’ extension, OR use this link to open the extension page directly in the Chrome Web Store.

On the extension page, click on the ‘Add to Chrome’ button next to the name of the extension to install it in your browser.

A dialog box will pop-up asking you to confirm adding the extension. Click on the ‘Add extension’ button.

It will install the extension on Chrome and you will be taken to the extension’s Settings page. You can see details about privacy features and data collection.

You can ‘Agree’ or ‘Disagree’. The choice is completely yours. Agreeing to it enables advanced features that make mouse gestures more efficient.

If you click on the ‘Agree’ button, it will redirect the page to a game that will make you used to mouse gestures. If you click on the ‘Disagree’ button, you might miss this game.


Configuring Mouse Gestures in CrxMouse

CrxMouse gestures extension is feature-rich to ease our web browsing activity. To configure and edit the functions of the extension, click on the ‘Icon’ of extension in the toolbar and then on the ‘Gear’ icon as seen in the image below.

It will take you to the CrxMouse Chrome Gestures extension settings page. On the settings page, you will see different options under different sections. You can disable the mouse gestures without removing the extension by toggling the button as seen in the image below.

What is the use of mouse gestures extension if we cannot open its settings with a mouse gesture? CrxMouse has a gesture to open its own settings page. Remember, this extension works only on a webpage. It doesn’t work in a new tab unless a website or a webpage is opened in it.

To open settings, hold right-click and drag the mouse to right (➡) and then down (⬇) and then to left (⬅) and then up (⬆), as seen in the below image. In simple words, you have to draw a box starting from drag to the right side.

Enable Super Drag

Super Drag is one of the best features of the CrxMouse gestures extension. You can open an image in a new tab, download the image, select and copy text, select and search the text on Google, etc. Super Drag feature is enabled by default. If it is not enabled, go to the settings page of the extension with a mouse gesture, and check on the button beside ‘Enable Super Drag’.

We use the right-click more when we need to open an image from a webpage in a new tab. Also, we can open the image in a new tab only to the right side of the existing tab. The super drag feature in this extension lets you open an image in a new tab to the left or right side of the existing tab. You just have to hold left-click on the image and drag it to the right (➡) to open it in a new tab to the right of the existing tab.

Download an Image

Generally, when we need to save an image from a webpage, we right-click on it and click on the ‘save image’ option. The super drag features in the CrxMouse gestures extension makes it so easy. You just have to hold left-click on the image and drag it down (⬇) to download the image onto your computer.

Open Link in a New Tab

We right-click on a link and click on the ‘open in a new tab’ option when we need to open a link from a webpage in a new tab. CrxMouse gestures extension makes it easier to open links in a new tab.

To open a link in a new tab to the left of the existing tab, hold left-click on the link and drag it to the left (⬅).

To open a link in a new tab to the right of the existing tab, hold left-click on the link and drag it to the right (➡).

Google-search Text on a Webpage

Searching about a particular text on a webpage through Google is very easy with the CrxMouse gestures extension. To search, select the text and drag it to the right (➡) to open the Google search results tab to the right of the existing tab.

Select the text you wish to copy and drag it down (⬇) to copy text using mouse gestures.

Mouse Gestures for Navigation

If you frequently use the back and forward buttons to navigate between webpages, you can now avoid going to the toolbar and clicking on the back and forward buttons, thanks to CrxMouse gestures.

To go to the previous page, hold right-click and drag the mouse to the left (⬅) on an empty space.

To navigate forward, hold the right-click and drag the mouse to the right (➡) on an empty space.

Navigate between Tabs

Navigating between the tabs with mouse gestures is so much easier. To navigate to the left side tab with mouse gestures, hold right-click and drag the mouse up (⬆) and then drag to the left (⬅).

To navigate to the right side tab, hold right-click and drag the mouse up (⬆) and then drag to the right (➡).

Mouse Gestures for Scrolling

With the CrxMouse Chrome Mouse Gestures extension, you can scroll seamlessly. If you want to scroll down, hold right-click and drag the mouse down (⬇).

To scroll up, hold right click and drag the mouse up (⬆).

You can also scroll to the bottom or top of a webpage with mouse gestures. If you need to scroll to the bottom of a webpage, hold right-click and drag the mouse to the right (➡) and then drag down (⬇).

If you want to scroll to the top of a webpage using mouse gestures, hold right-click and drag the mouse to the right (➡) and then drag up (⬆).

Gestures to Load Pages

With mouse gestures, you can reopen a closed tab, reload a page, reload all the tabs at once, reload without cache, and close tabs.

If you have accidentally closed a tab or you need to reopen a closed tab for any reason, hold right-click and drag the mouse to left (⬅) and drag it up (⬆).

To reload a tab, hold right-click and drag mouse up (⬆) and then down (⬇).

If you want to reload all the tabs you have opened, hold right-click and drag the mouse to the left (⬅) and the right (➡).

Window Gestures

There are mouse gestures to close and open a Chrome window too. If you need to close an opened Chrome window, hold right-click, drag the mouse up (⬆) and then right (➡) and down (⬇).

To open a new window, hold the right-click and drag the mouse down (⬇) and to right (➡) and then up (⬆).

How to Customize Scrolling Options

Open CrxMouse extension settings. Then, tick the checkbox for the ‘Enable Scrolling’ feature.

It will add ‘Scrolling’ settings button to the sidebar of the settings page. Click on it to access scrolling settings.

On the scrolling settings page, you can change scrolling speed, or acceleration to which you deem suitable by dragging the sliders.

How to Import/Export Configurations?

To import/export your mouse gesture configurations, open the CrxMouse Chrome Mouse gestures settings page and click on the ‘Advanced Settings’ button on the left-side bar.

On the ‘Advanced Settings’ page, you can see options to import/export configurations. To export, click on the ‘Export’ button.

Upon clicking, it will show you code in the text box above the buttons. Copy and paste it in a document and save it.

To import configuration paste the code in the same text box and click on the ‘Import’ button.

How to Sync Gestures Across All My Desktop Devices?

CrxMouse Crome Gestures extension settings and gestures can be synced across all your desktop devices. You can sync them through your Google account.

Install the extension on the Chrome browser in all your PCs and login with the same Google account on all the devices. Then the configurations syncs across all the devices.
