Don’t have a Wi-Fi router at home need to connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi? Well, your Windows 10 laptop can do the job. In this article, we are going to show you how you can create a Wi-Fi hotspot on your computer so that other wireless devices can connect to it and share your laptop’s internet.

Use Windows 10’s Wi-Fi Hotspot Feature

The easiest way to share your PC’s internet with your iPhone and other devices is through the Mobile Hotspot feature on Windows 10. It lets you create a Wi-Fi hotspot using your laptop’s internet connection to which your iPhone can connect like any other Wi-Fi network.

Open the Start menu on your Windows 10 laptop and click the Settings gear icon on the left.

Click on Start button and then click on Settings.

Select Network & Internet on Windows 10 Settings screen.

Click on Network & Internet.

Then click Mobile Hotspot from the options available in the left panel on the Network settings screen.

Select Mobile Hotspot from the left panel.

From the Mobile Hotspot settings screen, first select the network using which you want to create a Wi-Fi hotspot from your laptop.

If your PC/laptop is connected to multiple networks (wired or wireless), then click on the drop-down menu below “Share my Internet connection from” text and select the network which you’d like to be shared over the Mobile Hotspot.

💡 Tip
If your PC/Laptop is hooked up to a router or modem over LAN for the internet, then we recommend you select the Ethernet network as the source for sharing the internet connection. It’ll provide a more stable connection to the connecting devices.

Keep the Share my internet connection over setting to Wi-Fi. If you wish to set a custom Network name and password for your Mobile Hotspot, then click the Edit button.

From the pop-up window that appears, set a custom Network Name, Password, and the network band you’d like your mobile hotspot to use. If your PC/Laptop supports 5GHz Wi-Fi, then set Network band to 5GHz for a significantly faster wireless connection. Hit the Save button when you’re done configuring.

💡 Why you should set Network band to 5GHz
Suppose you have a 100 Mbps internet connection from your ISP. If you set Network band type to 2.4 GHz then the maximum internet speed you’ll get on your connected devices will be 30 Mbps. However, if you set it to 5GHz, then you’re likely to get full 100 Mbps internet speed, or (at least) somewhere between 80 Mbps to 95 Mbps.

Once Mobile hotspot settings are configured to your preference, turn on the toggle switch for Mobile hotspot from the top of the screen.

That’s it. Open Wi-Fi settings on your iPhone and connect to the Mobile Hotspot you created on your Windows 10 PC/Laptop.

Use a Third-party Software to create Wi-Fi Hotspot

If you are using older Windows versions like Windows 7, 8 or XP, or you want to connect more than eight devices on your Windows 10 machine, then you can install third-party software like mHotspot to share your PC’s internet with your iPhone. It is a small, free software that is very easy to use.

Download and install mHotspot from the link above, and launch the program on your Windows PC. The software will give you quick options to create a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Configure the Hotspot Name, Password, and select the internet you want to share from the Internet Source option. Then finally, click the Start Hotspot button.

Create a network name and password of your choice and click on Start Hotspot.

A hotspot will be created from your PC/Laptop. It’s as simple as that. Go to the Wi-Fi settings on your iPhone and connect to the network.

🍻 Cheers!
