Character hangouts in Neverness to Everness are tied to the Bond Affinity System. You raise a character's Bond Level, and at fixed thresholds the game opens new ways to spend time with them, including home invitations and dedicated city date spots around Hethereau. Not every roster member supports every tier, so the path to a hangout depends on which character you are pursuing.
Quick answer: Reach Bond Level 4 with a supported character (Chiz, Fadia, Jiayuan, Mint, or Nanally) to unlock Home Invitations and City Hangouts. Own a property through the City Tycoon system before home invites will work.
Bond Level thresholds for hangouts
Each character has up to ten Bond Levels, and hangout-related features open at set tiers. Aurelia is currently capped at Bond Level 2 and cannot access hangouts.

The five activities you can do once Familiar tier is reached include strolling around Hethereau, driving with a passenger, inviting a character home, visiting specific date spots, and triggering bond side stories.
How to raise Bond Level fast
Step 1: Give favorite gifts daily. Each character has specific likes, and matching their favorite items grants the largest Bond EXP per gift. You can give a maximum of ten gifts per day, and the counter resets at the daily server reset.
Step 2: Farm A Handwritten Letter from the Warp Exchange Circle Bounty. It is a universally liked gift that every roster member responds to positively, which makes it the most efficient option before you have built up specific favorite items.
Step 3: Run quests with the target character in your active party. Completing missions while they are slotted in feeds Bond EXP passively without spending gift charges.
Step 4: Respond to Bond Text Messages. A white heart icon with a pink ring under a message title flags a Bond interaction. Accepting the activity grants a meaningful Bond EXP chunk and only takes a couple of minutes.
Step 5: Use Sidekick Showdown and Shotgun Riding once Bond Level 2 is reached. Both feed back into Bond EXP and bridge the gap to the Familiar tier where hangouts open up.
Unlock a property for home hangouts
Inviting a character to your place requires owning a residence through the City Tycoon system. Without a property, the home invitation option is locked even at Bond Level 4.
Step 1: Trigger the City Tycoon system. Walk through Bridge Crossings Plaza during the "Good Morning, Hethereau" guide quest, where Chiz approaches you about a debit card. Accepting starts the Tycoon track.
Step 2: Push Tycoon Rank to 5. You need to clear the Coffee Curator tutorial quest and accumulate 327,600 Fons. Reaching this rank unlocks the Property feature and lists Wiener Apartments for purchase.
Step 3: Buy your first home. Travel to the Leon Estate Group and speak with Monica. Wiener Apartments costs 200,000 Fons and is located on North Little Banyan Road. Higher-tier properties such as Eden Apartments, Skyview Halls, Golden Capital, and Fenglin Villa unlock at later Tycoon Ranks and allow more guests at once.
Step 4: Place furniture to raise Comfort Value. Comfort gates further Tycoon Rank progress and improves the home invite experience. Anomaly Furniture additionally grants combat-related buffs outside the property.
How to invite a character to hang out
Step 1: Open the Bonds menu and select the character. Confirm their Bond Level is at least 4 and that the Rewards section lists Home Invitations or City Hangouts as available. If those entries are missing, the character does not yet support that tier.
Step 2: Choose the activity. Home invites place the character in your residence in casual attire. City Hangouts let you take them to fixed date spots such as the Movie Theater or the Ferris Wheel for special photo memories.
Step 3: Complete the hangout. The interaction plays through scripted dialogue and animations, then awards Bond EXP that progresses you toward Close Friends and, for Mint and Nanally, the Heartbond unique date encounter.
Common reasons hangouts do not unlock
- The character is not on the supported list. Only Chiz, Fadia, Jiayuan, Mint, and Nanally currently support Familiar-tier hangouts.
- Bond Level is below 4. Acquainted-tier perks like Sidekick Showdown do not count as hangouts.
- No property owned. Home invitations require a residence purchased through City Tycoon.
- Daily gift cap exhausted. Once ten gifts are spent in a day, additional gifting is blocked until reset.
- Aurelia is selected. She is capped at Bond Level 2 in the current build.
Once a hangout completes, the Bonds menu updates the character's level bar, and the Rewards panel marks the corresponding tier perk as obtained. If the menu still shows the option as locked after meeting the conditions, leave the Bonds screen, complete a daily quest, and return so the progression flag refreshes.
