Most AI tools are starting to add a 'Deep Research' feature to their arsenal and Perplexity AI has become one of the latest tools to jump on this bandwagon. As the name suggests, Perplexity Deep Research can help you get deeper insights into a topic with in-depth reports.
It can handle complex topics in a lot of domains like finance, marketing, and product research. The reports it can compile would otherwise require hours of manual research and analysis. According to reports shared by Perplexity, Perplexity Deep Research beats leading models at various benchmarks, like performance. It scored 93.9% accuracy on the SimpleQA benchmark, and 21.1% on Humanity's Last Exam outperforming models like Gemini Thinking, ChatGPT o3-mini, and DeepSeek R1.
But the best part about Perplexity Deep Research is, that unlike Gemini and ChatGPT, it isn't reserved for users with a subscription. Even free users can try it. Free Perplexity users get up to 5 queries a day for Deep Research whereas Pro users can send up to 500 queries in a day.
How does it work? Perplexity Deep Research uses coding, advanced web search, and reasoning to find in-depth data for a query and compile it into comprehensive reports. It iteratively performs searches and reads through the sources while reasoning about the next steps to perform. Once it is done collecting the information, it will compile the data into a neat report.
Perplexity Deep Research has been optimized for speed and it can complete most tasks in under 3 minutes. The company is working on optimizing the tool for speed even more.
How to Use Perplexity Deep Research
Deep Research is only available on the web initially, but the company plans to bring the feature to iOS, Android, and Mac apps soon.
- To use Perplexity Deep Research, go to perplexity.ai from your preferred web browser.
- Then, create or sign into your existing account on the platform. While Perplexity Search can be used without signing into an account, Deep Research is only available with an account. You can create an account on Perplexity for free if you don't have one.

- First-time users will see an 'Introducing Deep Research' option on the screen. Clicking on it will select the Deep Research mode.

- Otherwise, you can select the Deep Research mode from the search box. Click on the 'Auto' option to expand the drop-down menu.

- Then, select 'Deep Research' from the options.

- Now, simply enter your query in the search box and let Perplexity conduct deep research. As mentioned above, it takes time to perform deep research. While Perplexity can complete most tasks in 3 minutes, it can take longer for some tasks, especially for free users.
- Once Perplexity returns a report, you can even export it as a PDF or a document or convert it into a Perplexity page to share it with others.

Deep Research can prove to be a great asset. You can use it for work, for instance, when you need to create reports for work in domains that Deep Research specializes in, i.e., marketing, product research, technology, etc. You can even use it as a personal consultant in situations such as creating travel itineraries, and workout, or meal plans.
