Jurassic Genesis: How to Get Tenebris Rex and the Experiments Unhandled Badge

Tenebris rex is one of the badge-locked creatures in Jurassic Genesis, and it does not appear in the dinosaur roster until you have earned the Experiments Unhandled badge. The badge comes from a single chain of events on the human side of the map, starting with a scientist NPC and ending with you sprinting down a dark corridor while a poisonous hybrid closes in behind you.

Quick answer: Spawn as a Human, talk to Dr. Wu in the lab to start the Find Dr Wu’s Vials quest, collect all three vials, return them for the bunker keycard, then use the keycard on the bunker door and reach the lit exit before Tenebris rex catches you. The badge fires the moment you escape.

What you need before starting the Dr. Wu quest

The entire unlock runs through the Humans faction. Picking Dinosaurs on the team screen locks you out of the quest completely, because Dr. Wu will not interact with you and the keycard never enters your inventory. A vehicle is not required, but the map is large enough that walking the whole route wastes several minutes.

Note: this creature has carried both names across builds. Older listings refer to it as Scorpios rex, while the current roster entry reads Tenebris rex. The badge requirement is the same either way.

Start the quest and collect all three vials

Spawn at the Geothermal Plant and head for the lab. Use the Vehicle Spawner to pull out a Ford Raptor, G-Wagon, or ATV, then follow the road and tunnel that leads to the cave laboratory entrance.

Walk up to Dr. Wu inside the lab and press E when the interaction prompt appears. He hands you the quest Find Dr Wu’s Vials with the instruction to collect all three from across the island, and he marks each location for you.

Reset your character and pick a spawn point close to the first marker instead of driving the full distance. The spawn menu covers Geothermal Plant, Cabins, Maintenance Tunnels, Outpost Alpha, Docks, and Field Lab, so the vials are rarely more than a short drive from one of them.

Grab each vial by walking into it and pressing the interact key. The counter on screen ticks up from 1/3 to 3/3 as you go, and the objective text switches over once the last one is in hand.

The three pickups sit at fixed landmarks rather than random spots, so once you know the props to look for, the run takes a couple of minutes.

Trade the vials for the bunker keycard

Respawn at the Geothermal Plant and drive back through the tunnel to the lab. The objective text updates to tell you to return to Dr. Wu once you hit 3/3.

Interact with Dr. Wu again to turn in the vials. He gives you the Keycard, which appears as an equippable item in your hotbar alongside anything else you are carrying.

Drive out of the lab and follow the rocky mountain trail past the lava pool. The bunker entrance is a concrete doorway set into the hillside, partly overgrown, at the end of that path.

Equip the Keycard, stand at the door, and press E to trigger the Enter Keycard prompt. The door opens and the objective changes to surviving the encounter inside.

Survive the bunker chase

Inside is a set of dark concrete corridors signposted ASSET CONTAINMENT. Tenebris rex emerges from a side doorway partway through and pursues you for the rest of the run. There is no fight here and no reason to stop moving.

Keep sprinting through the turning hallways and head for the bright white light marking the exit doorway. Passing through that exit ends the sequence. Getting caught before you reach it ends the attempt instead, and you will need to run the bunker again.

How to confirm the Experiments Unhandled badge unlocked

Three things happen in quick succession when it works. A Badge Awarded notification appears for Experiments Unhandled, the server disconnects you on purpose with Error Code 267, and the disconnect message confirms you made it out. Builds have shown that message as either “You survived.” or “You successfully escaped E750.”

Rejoin the game, choose Dinosaurs on the team screen, and open the Special tab in the dinosaur list. Tenebris rex now appears there and can be spawned like any other unlocked creature.

If the badge does not fire, the cause is almost always one of a short list. You started the run as a Dinosaur rather than a Human, you left the bunker area before turning in all three vials, the Keycard was not equipped when you tried the door, or Tenebris rex caught you before you reached the lit exit.
