Kamisato Ayato does not need his own signature sword to put up carry-level numbers. Equipping Beyond the Chrysalis, the five-star sword built for Vesna, Ayato clears the Secret Source Automaton: Overseer Device on Stygian Onslaught’s Dire difficulty in 98 seconds, well inside the 180-second window that unlocks the mode’s hardest rewards.
Quick answer: Beyond the Chrysalis works on Ayato as a raw stat stick. Its Winds of Devotion buff triggers on his Elemental Skill or Burst and raises his CRIT DMG from 244.4% to 300.4% for 10 seconds, which covers almost all of his on-field time.
What Beyond the Chrysalis does on Ayato
Beyond the Chrysalis is a five-star Sword introduced in Version 7.1 as Vesna’s best-in-slot weapon. At level 90 it carries a high base attack and a CRIT DMG secondary stat of 44.1%, which already makes it attractive to any CRIT-scaling sword user before the passive is even considered.
The passive, Dance of Wings Unbound, grants one of three effects in a fixed rotation each time the holder uses an Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst. Winds of Devotion adds 56% CRIT DMG for 10 seconds at Refinement 1. Winds of Defiance raises Stellar-Swirl reaction damage by 36%. Winds of Plenty regenerates Elemental Energy. The sequence resets and the buffs drop the moment the character leaves the field.
Only Vesna uses all three effects. For Ayato, the value sits almost entirely in Winds of Devotion. His build in the showcase shows a base CRIT DMG of 244.4%, and activating his skill pushes that to 300.4%. Because Ayato opens with his skill and burst and then stays on field spamming Shunsuiken slashes, the 10-second buff is effectively always up during his damage window.

The rest of Ayato’s setup is standard. He runs a four-piece Gladiator’s Finale set at Constellation 0, talents at 8 for Normal Attack, 10 for Elemental Skill and 9 for Elemental Burst, with 71.1% CRIT Rate, 127.2% Energy Recharge and 46.6% Hydro DMG Bonus.

Add to Google Preferences →The Freeze team around him
Ayato leads a Freeze-oriented lineup. Two Cryo units pair with two Hydro units so the enemy stays frozen and Ayato’s Hydro slashes land into a locked-down target. The composition breaks down as follows.
| Character | Role | Weapon | Artifacts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kamisato Ayato | Hydro DPS | Beyond the Chrysalis | Gladiator’s Finale |
| Vodyanitsa | Hydro support | Hymn of the Maelstrom | Tenacity of the Millelith |
| Escoffier | Cryo sub-DPS | Symphonist of Scents | Golden Troupe |
| Citlali | Cryo support | — | Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City |
Citlali appears at Constellation 2 with 1,144 Elemental Mastery, while Vodyanitsa builds around HP to feed Hymn of the Maelstrom. Escoffier and Citlali supply the consistent Cryo application the fight demands, and Vodyanitsa covers both Hydro and healing.
How the Dire boss fight plays out
The target is the Secret Source Automaton: Overseer Device in its Obliterator Panoply form, a Level 110 boss on Stygian Onslaught’s Dire difficulty. The clear takes place in Battlefield 2 of the Luminous Battlefront challenge.

The boss relies on a Flow Momentum gauge. Consecutive Cryo hits impede that gauge, which halts the automaton’s aggressive mode and opens vulnerability windows. That is the entire reason the team runs two Cryo units behind a Hydro carry rather than a mono-Hydro core.
Ayato opens with his Elemental Burst and Shunsuiken sequence while Citlali and Escoffier layer Cryo and Vodyanitsa supplies Hydro. The Cryo pressure freezes the automaton, suppressing its momentum and leaving it exposed to Ayato’s continuous slashes.

Once the Cryo stacks suppress the gauge, the automaton stops moving and absorbs an uninterrupted stretch of Hydro damage. That stun phase is where the bulk of the health bar disappears.

The battle ends at 98 seconds. Dire’s Perilous Objective requires the full challenge to finish within 180 seconds, so a single-stage time under 100 seconds leaves comfortable margin for the remaining battlefields.

What the DPS test shows
After the clear, the same rotation runs against The Captain, a Level 100 training dummy. The team reaches peak sustained output above 168,000 DPS, with individual hits landing between 80,000 and 110,000 damage. Those numbers confirm that the Beyond the Chrysalis build is not just surviving Dire, it is carrying it on CRIT DMG alone.

Why this matters for the weapon banner
Beyond the Chrysalis is an Event-Wish exclusive, available on the Version 7.1 Phase 1 Epitome Invocation banner through October 13, 2026, after which it leaves the shop. Its passive is tailored to Vesna’s Stellar-Swirl kit, but the showcase makes the broader point clear. Any on-field CRIT sword carry who opens with a skill or burst and then stays in to attack gets near-permanent Winds of Devotion uptime, turning the sword into one of the strongest CRIT DMG stat sticks in the game regardless of who it was designed for.
