The Escape Route ending in Keep the Door Locked (Anomaly) is one of the game’s bad conclusions, in the same family as the Hallway ending. It plays out entirely inside your room and revolves around a single choice: whether to trust the Katana Man who asks to spend the night. Reaching it takes patience, because it fires later than any other ending in Story mode.

What you need before the Escape Route ending triggers

This ending is gated behind survival time. You must reach Night 20, which is later than any other ending demands, so a stable night-to-night routine matters more than chasing the encounter early.

The trigger is the Katana Man. He wears a balaclava that covers his head and neck, along with a combat vest, a dark shirt, and dark trousers, and he carries a katana. He typically appears on Night 20 and asks you to open the door so he can wait inside and watch for the monster at the window.

How to trigger the Escape Route ending

When the Katana Man knocks on Night 20, open the door and let him enter. He asks to stay so he can see the monster appear at the window, and granting entry is the only way to start this route.

Once he is inside, he sits down beside your bed and waits. Leave him alone until you hear a noise coming from outside the window.

The moment you hear that noise, move to the curtains and press E to open them. The Katana Man spots the Window Monster and charges into the fight, and both of them smash through the window glass. He appears to fell the monster in a single strike, and the two vanish within seconds.

With the window now broken, walk up to it and hold E to climb out. A cutscene follows your character into the woods behind the hotel, where they stop, turn around, and see the Window Monster crouched to pounce. That ominous shot is why this counts as a bad ending.
