The Mayhem Collection turns LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight over to the other side of the cowl, and it does it with a full origin story for Harley Quinn. The cutscenes run as one continuous arc across a single story mission, starting with a nervous new psychiatrist at the Arkham Asylum gates and ending with a trophy, a skylight, and a plate of lasagne.
Quick answer: The DLC’s cutscenes play in one unbroken sequence during the new story mission — Harleen Quinzel’s first day at Arkham, her sessions with the Joker, the breakout, the Amusement Mile hideout, and the Villy Awards arrest.

Harleen Quinzel’s first day at Arkham Asylum
The story opens at night on the asylum gates, where Dr. Joan Leland meets Dr. Harleen Quinzel and asks what drew her to the job. Harleen’s answer is telling — she is fascinated by the size of the personalities locked up inside. Leland hands over a keycard, mentions the horror stories staff like to tell, and sends her into the Max Security wing.
A guard who introduces himself as Max Security walks her past the cells. Penguin, Ratcatcher, and Solomon Grundy are all visible on the route, setting up faces that matter later. The tour ends outside a cell where the Joker is watching The David Endocrine Show on a small TV.
The therapy sessions and the Harley Quinn nickname
The Joker spots Harleen at the window, turns her name over a few times, and lands on Harley Quinn. He suggests the two of them might have more in common than she would like to admit, and the session that follows plays out inside her imagination as a late-night talk show.
You pick dialogue options during the session, asking about his past and his memories. The Joker flips the format and starts interviewing her instead, pushing on whether she has ever broken the rules. Her answer involves an irritating bodega worker and a vat of hot sauce.

The pair then run through a round of matching answers — hand buzzers, velociraptors, and mint chocolate chip ice cream — which is the beat the whole relationship hangs on. Max Security interrupts the daydream to tell Harleen she is standing in a restricted area and that Warden Quincy Sharp wants the Joker brought up. The two of them get rid of the guard by reminding him it is Tuesday, which means lasagne.
Amanda Waller, Belle Reve, and Harleen’s turn
Harleen escorts the Joker through the asylum, a stretch that doubles as a playable walk past the rec room, the yard, the greenhouse, and the grand hallway. Condiment King, Egghead, Music Meister, Clock King, Killer Moth, and Calendar Man all turn up along the way, and Henchmaster is already drilling recruits outside.
In the warden’s office, Sharp introduces Amanda Waller, Director of A.R.G.U.S., who announces that the Joker is being transferred to Belle Reve for Task Force X. Guards physically throw Harleen out of the room. That humiliation is the trigger — she decides the only way to matter to him is to become his partner.
She drives into Gotham City, raids a novelty shop for a jester costume and explosives, and comes back as Harley Quinn.

The Arkham breakout, Poison Ivy, and the rocket tree
Harley blasts the Joker’s cell open and hands him back his purple suit, then starts a full riot by unlocking the wing. The Mutant Leader and Solomon Grundy are among the first inmates loose. While the Joker takes a call from Warden Sharp in the control room, Harley holds off guards in the hallway with the Boxing Glove and Fun Gun gadgets.

Poison Ivy comes next. Harley jams her containment controls with a bubblegum shot, fetches a potted plant from the greenhouse, and Ivy repays the favor by growing vines large enough to tear through the roof. The pair climb the overgrown scaffolding and build a rocket-powered Christmas tree on the rooftop to launch themselves clear of the asylum.

Waller watches the launch and orders a citywide lockdown. Colonel Rick Flag rolls into Gotham with A.R.G.U.S. vehicles and declares a curfew.
Amusement Mile, the hyena pups, and the Funhouse hideout
The getaway truck crashes, scattering animals across Amusement Mile — including two hyena pups. Inside the Snowy Cones parlour, Harley mixes banana, sugar, and milk to work the ice cream machine and retrieve the Joker’s hidden Paintball Pelter, which then gets used on a group of rival crooks on the boardwalk.
- Bud is stranded on a maintenance building roof and freed by realigning a ride’s gear mechanism.
- Lou is stuck on a runaway rollercoaster cart, stopped with a Boxing Glove hit and a bubblegum jam.
- Both pups squeeze through a vent to open the Funhouse security gate.
A sewer slide drops the duo into a run-down theatre beneath the Funhouse, which becomes the base. The Joker smashes open an odd gift box and releases Joker-Mite from the Fifth Dimension, who sets up vending stations and villain merchandise, and the two build a multi-tiered cake planning table in the center of the room.

Joker-Mite also delivers the warning that frames Mayhem Mode: when a run’s timer expires, Batman and Robin show up. Henchmaster then breaks in and offers to train rescued inmates into a crew you can summon, and the Joker fires up a rooftop signal projecting his own emblem over Gotham.
The studs you collect during those timed runs are what pay for permanent hideout upgrades, customizer props, and the 30 new Joker and Harley outfits.
Task Force X, the Villy Awards, and the ending
Waller orders Flag to deploy Task Force X against the pair. The roster on the hunt includes Deadshot, Katana, Captain Boomerang, Mongal, King Shark, Deathstroke, Polka-Dot Man, and Killer Croc, and they follow the trail of festive traps and decorations spreading across Amusement Mile.
The closing cutscene takes place at the Monarch Theatre, where David Endocrine presents the Villy Awards. Poison Ivy receives Biggest Impact, Henchmaster earns Excellence in Recruitment, and the Joker and Harley Quinn take Best Partners in Crime.

Batman, Robin, and Batgirl crash through the glass ceiling mid-ceremony and cuff the winners. The joke lands on the way back to Arkham — the two of them are delighted, because being locked up together on a Tuesday means lasagne.

Batman: The Animated Series references in the cutscenes
The whole expansion leans on Batman: The Animated Series, the show where Harley Quinn first appeared. The most visible nod is technical — the cutscenes are presented in a 4:3 aspect ratio to match the original broadcast format, which is why they look boxed in next to the main campaign’s scenes.
Out in Gotham City there is a shop called Sorkin’s Gems, named for Arleen Sorkin, the original voice of Harley Quinn, who died in 2023. Henchmaster is a deeper pull, first appearing in Batman: The Joker War Zone #1. Between those references and the run of cameos through the asylum, the story mission works as a compact tour of the character’s history as much as a villain origin.
