Omega Red is the fight Insomniac built to test Logan’s healing factor, and it plays out as one long chain of cutscenes and combat rather than a single arena brawl. The sequence moves from a rain-soaked street to the inside of a Trask Industries compound and finally out to a crashed plane, with Arkady’s carbonadium coils draining Logan between every swing.
Quick answer: The Omega Red encounter runs as one continuous sequence — an ambush outside, a drop into the Trask Compound, two combat phases split by a scripted capture, and a QTE execution in the rain.
Everything below covers major story beats, including how the fight ends and who survives it.
Omega Red fight phases and prompts
| Phase | Setting | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Ambush | Cliff edge, rainy street | Sabretooth dropped, taunts, no fight |
| Phase one | Trask Compound interior | Claw combos, tentacle dodges |
| Capture | Compound interior | Scripted grab and drain |
| Final phase | Outside, crashed plane | One-on-one melee in the rain |
| Finisher | Outside, ground | Button-prompt execution |
A boss health bar labeled Omega Red sits at the top of the screen through both combat phases, which is the clearest signal of where you are in the encounter. Button prompts appear on screen during the scripted moments, with R2 and Square driving the takedown.

Add to Google Preferences →The setup: Sabretooth, the Reavers, and the drop into Trask
It opens with Sabretooth hauling Logan up from a cliff edge and openly considering letting go instead. A Reavers ship arrives seconds later, and Omega Red steps out to mock the pair for being loud enough to draw him in, telling Logan that Trask agreed his security was never going to stop a man like this. He calls in Reavers troops to lock down the area and leaves.
The next scene is worse for Logan. The ship passes low over a town street and dumps a beaten, bloodied Sabretooth onto the pavement in front of him. Logan demands the rematch; Omega Red turns it down, saying he would rather watch Logan die scurrying around like a rat, and flies off.

Inside the ship, Omega Red wraps his coils around a bleeding Essex — Mister Sinister — drains him, and throws him out. Logan jumps after him despite Sabretooth screaming at him not to, crashing through a glass ceiling and landing inside the facility. A title card reads TRASK COMPOUND — Last Meal.
Phase one inside the Trask Compound
Omega Red drops in after him, tosses Essex aside, and starts draining him again in front of Logan. Control returns and the first combat phase begins, built around closing distance, landing claw combos, and getting out of the way of long tentacle sweeps that reach across the room.

The dialogue keeps running through the fight. Omega Red asks why Logan’s team rejected him and gets a blunt answer about what he is. Logan tells him he should have killed him when he had the chance; Omega Red’s reply is that he will not live long enough to regret it. When Logan knocks him down at the end of the phase, he throws the line back at him.

The Voice and Logan’s feral break
Omega Red is not finished. While Logan searches for Essex, the coils snap out, catch him, and hoist him up. This is where Arkady explains the name: red is the easy part, but Omega means “The End,” because he is the last thing his victims see. The coils tighten around Logan’s neck and chest, the screen flashes, and he screams.
What breaks the hold is not gameplay. A voice cuts in with three words — “This. Is not. The end.” — Logan’s eyes glow white, and he tears free and slashes Omega Red straight through a wall. It is the clearest tie between the story and the rage mechanic the combat is built around.

Final phase and the QTE execution
Logan lands outside near a crashed plane and is immediately surrounded by Reavers shouting at each other to close in. Omega Red, badly hurt, waves them off and tells them to stay back — he wants Logan himself. That sets up the final phase, a straight one-on-one in heavy rain with the same dodge-and-punish rhythm at a faster pace.
The fight ends on a prompt. Logan tackles Omega Red to the ground, pins him, and stabs down with his claws repeatedly while asking where his team is now. Confirmation that it worked comes over the Reavers’ radio, which announces that Omega Red is down as Logan stands up, bloodied, with Essex visible and alive behind him.

The alternate cut with Mystique and the genetic sample
A second version of the same encounter circulates with different bookends. There, Logan is loading a wounded Essex onto an extraction aircraft flown by Mystique under heavy fire when a whip lashes into the jet and rips Essex out. Logan leaps after him, tackles Omega Red in freefall, and the two crash through the warehouse roof together.
The middle is familiar — the impalement, the recovery, the upside-down torture sequence, the break out through the wall, the Reavers held back outside — but the aftermath is not. Essex walks up and tells Logan to harvest a genetic sample from Omega Red for the vault. Logan cuts the sample, Mystique returns with the aircraft to strafe the arriving Reavers, Sabretooth opens the hatch, and the transport lifts off with Essex thanking Logan on board.
Prompt sets differ between the two cuts. One shows R2 and Square during the takedown; the other shows L2, R2, and Circle.
Why Omega Red is built to hurt Wolverine
Arkady Rossovich is a Soviet-era super-soldier and one of Wolverine’s longest-running rivals in the comics. His mutation is a “death factor” that pulls life energy out of anyone near him, and the carbonadium coils grafted into his arms are the delivery system. That combination is why he works as a boss here — the drain directly counters the healing factor the rest of the game leans on.
- Carbonadium is the Soviet answer to adamantium: nearly indestructible, but flexible and toxic.
- The toxicity required an implanted C-Synthesizer to keep him alive.
- Logan’s Team X stole that device, which is the root of the grudge.
- Without it he had to keep killing simply to survive.
Insomniac’s version keeps the feeding and the cruelty but ties them to the Reavers rather than a Cold War handler, which is why the taunt about them not caring what — or who — he craves lands the way it does.
Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive developed by Insomniac Games, with Liam McIntyre voicing Logan, and Omega Red sits alongside Mystique, the Reavers, and Mister Sinister in a story that moves between Canada, Madripoor, and Tokyo. The compound fight is the clearest showcase yet of how the rage system and the story feed each other.
