Victor Creed’s ambush is one of the nastiest set pieces in Marvel’s Wolverine, and not because of the damage numbers. Midway through the encounter, Sabretooth gouges Logan’s eyes out, and the game keeps playing. Your screen goes black and red, your enemy circles you in silence, and the only thing standing between Logan and a very short nap is a handful of button prompts.
Quick answer: When Logan is blinded, hit the on-screen prompts (Square, L2, R2) as they appear to block and counter. His healing factor restores his sight on a timer, not on a damage threshold.
Major story spoilers for Logan’s time in Madripoor follow.
Where the Sabretooth fight starts
The encounter opens quietly. Logan is hauling concrete off trapped civilians with Jean Grey’s help when she picks up more dormant mutants at the fish market and admits she’s running out of gas. Logan tells her he’ll catch up, she takes off telekinetically, and he heads into Lowtown’s market on foot.

Inside a market stall he finds Nathaniel Essex and calls his bluff about being a mutant. Essex snaps back that his wife was the mutant, and that he grafted the X-gene onto himself with crude science so her powers would live on in him. Logan grabs him by the collar, Essex politely says goodbye, and that’s the cue: Sabretooth comes in from behind and flattens Logan.

Creed pins him down, mocks his regrown arm and something called the Helix Engine, and gets a set of claws through the chest for it. From there the fight runs in stages.

| Phase | Where | What it asks of you |
|---|---|---|
| Market brawl | Fish market stalls | Standard claw combat |
| Dockside chase | Wooden pier | Dodge a thrown scooter, tackle Creed |
| Blind survival | Docks | Button prompts only |
| Cliffside duel | Clifftop above the water | Counter his charge |
The first two phases play out like the rest of the game’s combat. Creed fights on all fours, goads Logan into chasing him, and the pair wreck stalls and crash through buildings on their way down to the docks. The scooter he lobs at you is a telegraphed dodge, not a QTE.
The blind phase: prompts and how it ends
Once the pier tackle lands, Creed goes for Logan’s eyes. The act itself is pixelated over, and when control returns Logan is stumbling with almost no visual information. The screen drops to black with red accents, enemies are invisible, and Creed switches to stealth attacks from off-screen.
This stretch is purely reactive. It splits into two beats: a survival section where you answer Creed’s ambushes with prompts, then a longer exchange where Logan throws defensive counters while still sightless. The inputs that appear are Square, L2, and R2. There is no health bar to chip down here and no way to rush it — you are buying time for the healing factor.
Treat audio as your radar. Creed announces himself before every lunge, and the Tempest 3D spatial audio positions him while the screen is useless.
You’ll know it’s working when the docks start resolving as blurry shapes around you. Sight returns fully a moment later, and the phase closes with an MK1 Sentinel dropping in, snatching Sabretooth, and flying off with a food cart in tow. That’s the hard stop on the blind section — not a kill, not a cutscene you can trigger early.
The cliffside rematch and the fall
Logan climbs a steep cliff face to chase the Sentinel and finds Creed already waiting at the top, asking why he keeps running. Creed blames him for destroying what was left of their family and promises to kill Jean Grey. The fight restarts on the rocky edge, and Creed has the advantage at first.
The turn comes when you counter his charge and pin him against the drop. Logan works out that Essex has been lying to both of them, retracts his claws, and chooses not to finish it. He shoves Creed off the cliff instead, sending him into the rocks and water below, then collapses from his own wounds and blacks out.

What happens straight after the fight
Logan wakes up with Essex standing over him, sneering about Team X and brushing off the Sentinel’s failure to retrieve Creed. Jean crashes a smaller Sentinel overhead, and then a far bigger Helix Sentinel descends. She warns Logan telepathically, and he starts screaming at the crowd below to evacuate.
From a rooftop, Logan watches the machine scan the crowd for dormant mutants. Essex lays out the plan while it works: a mass activation that forcibly unlocks the powers of millions of people, which he frames as the only route to mutant survival.

The Sentinel fires. A woman in the crowd mutates painfully and sprouts spikes, then more civilians are hit and warped into monstrous shapes. Essex is disappointed by the results, Logan needles him about it, and Essex teleports out in a purple mist insisting he’ll save the world himself. Logan attacks the Sentinel, eats a chest laser for it, and wakes up heavily scarred in a snowy forest surrounded by armed soldiers.
One caveat worth keeping in mind: this version of the sequence comes from an early build of the game, so exact prompt placements and censoring can shift in the shipped version. Insomniac’s PS5 exclusive launches on September 15th, 2026, with Liam McIntyre as Logan and Brent Gibson as Sabretooth, so the fight in your save may not match every beat above frame for frame.
