Marvel’s Wolverine puts Logan in a close, over-the-shoulder third-person camera that pulls back when a fight gets crowded. The walkthrough footage moves through tracking missions, stealth infiltrations, convoy set pieces, and memory sequences, and every one of them leans on the same small set of systems: scent tracking, a rage meter, parries, and claw-based climbing.
Quick answer: Combat runs on Square, Triangle, Circle and L1, with R3 for Feral Senses and L3 + R3 for Wolverine Rage. The playable route covers Trask industrial sites, a convoy chase, Madripoor, and Team X flashbacks.
Marvel’s Wolverine controls and HUD meters
The control scheme stays consistent from the opening bar fight through the facility levels. Nothing is remapped mid-mission, so the tutorial inputs carry all the way to the mini-boss encounters.
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Square | Light Attack |
| Triangle | Heavy Attack |
| Circle | Dodge |
| L1 | Parry |
| R3 | Feral Senses |
| L3 + R3 | Wolverine Rage |
| Triangle + Circle | Finisher (when prompted) |
Three readouts sit on the HUD: Health, Rage, and Claw Deflection. Health refills on its own once Logan stops taking hits, which stands in for the healing factor and removes the need to hunt for pickups. Objective markers show distance in metres, and enemies get glowing button prompts above their heads when a contextual move is available.

Add to Google Preferences →Feral Senses: How scent tracking works
Feral Senses is the investigation layer, and most missions gate progress behind it. The screen desaturates to black and white, and anything trackable lights up in colour.
Scent Trail Detected and TRACKING TARGET....Tracking is not always purely visual. In the ransacked Vancouver mansion, Logan follows audio cues to a phone buried in debris, then picks up a set of boot prints outside and switches to the scent trail to continue the chase.
Combat system: Rage, finishers and environmental kills
Fights open with bare-knuckle basics and escalate once the claws come out. Light and heavy attacks chain into combo prompts, and the game shows the current string on screen while you hold the pressure.

Finishers are the payoff for sustained aggression. Keep attacking with Square and Triangle to build the Rage meter, wear an enemy down until PRESS [Triangle] + [Circle] FOR FINISHER appears over their head, then press both at once for a contextual execution. The game is built around graphic claw damage, including dismemberment and cinematic kill animations.
Wolverine Rage, also called Berserker Rage, is the crowd-clearing tool. Triggering it with L3 + R3 shifts the image to black, white and red while Logan lands faster, lethal strikes against armoured troops. Later trials gate rewards behind it directly, with one objective asking you to kill enemies while in Rage Tier 3.
Armoured enemies need different handling than standard grunts:
- Shielded guards with energy shields and firearms resist a straight rush; thrust kicks and timed parries open them up.
- Commanders carrying stun batons must be parried until their guard breaks, which leads into a quick-time finisher.
- Cybernetic heavies, such as the enforcer on the logging truck, mix heavy weapon clashes with button prompts.
- Environmental hazards count as attacks. Enemies can be thrown into electrical panels marked
WARNING: HIGH VOLTAGE, through breakable railings, off catwalks, or into explosive canisters.

Because health regenerates when you avoid damage, backing out of a crowd for a few seconds is often stronger than pushing a combo you cannot finish.
Traversal and stealth: Claw climbing and silent takedowns
Logan can scale nearly any vertical surface by driving his adamantium claws into it. That covers stone cliffs, tree trunks, pipes, cranes and corrugated rooftops, and it turns most outdoor areas into a climbable grid rather than a fixed path. In the Alaskan forest he climbs a pine, runs along branches and jumps a gap to reach higher ground.

Stealth is optional but consistently available. Tall grass works as cover for silent takedowns, and dropping from a tree branch or roof onto a patrolling guard removes them before the alarm goes up. Facilities usually have a quiet way in as well, including air vents and narrow shafts that drop into security corridors.

Mission segments in the Marvel’s Wolverine walkthrough
The playable route swings between present-day Trask operations, telepathic memory trials, and flashbacks to Logan’s Team X years. Trask Industries is the through line, with Reavers and Skullbuster’s forces as the recurring opposition.
| Segment | Setting | Main objective |
|---|---|---|
| Homecoming | Essex’s base, memory forest | Recover lost memories |
| Suit build | Walter’s lab | Collect two supply crates |
| The One That Got Away | Vancouver ruins | Track the escaped mutant |
| Dockyard raid | Shipping port | Stop the mutant transport |
| Convoy chase | Mountain highway | Board the Trask trucks |
| Back In Action | Trask Outpost | Get inside the compound |
| Madripoor | Bar, alleys, rooftops | Follow the purple scent |
| Telambang | Jungle outpost | Free the collared prisoner |
| Team X flashbacks | Africa, Canada, Weapon X | Story sequences |
Several segments hand you an ally. Jean Grey reveals herself as the red-haired mutant during the dockside fight and uses telekinesis to crush vehicles and barricades while you handle the ground. Sabretooth joins in the jungle after a Last Stand recovery, and Mystique clears a room of Trask guards before questioning Logan about Victor. Mystique also flies the insertion runs, dropping Logan into the Vancouver coastline from a jet.

Set pieces break up the on-foot missions. Cutting support beams drops a shipping container across a truck ramp, a skull-decaled motorcycle starts the highway pursuit, and the chase ends with Logan breaching the lead trailer, beating the guard commander and reaching the captives. Larger threats appear later, including a Sentinel Prototype that fires optical laser beams in a containment bay.
Adaptations, Techniques and Gear menus
Progression splits across three separate screens, and each one is unlocked by story events rather than pure grinding.
Adaptations
Adaptations is the passive skill tree, laid out as nodes strung along a DNA double helix. Named upgrades include Healing Dangerously, Expanded Crit, Enraging Sprint and Barrage Recharge. It opens after the first memory trial in the cabin, which also pays out Adamantium tier rewards.
Techniques
Techniques are active abilities bought with technique points, and the menu plays an animated preview of each one. Savage Sprinter, Sprint Block, Healing Strike and Tornado Spin Lv 2 all appear here. These are worth spending mid-mission, since the menu is reachable during field missions such as the dockyard sweep.
Gear
Gear holds unlocked outfits and claw variations. Walter builds a new suit out of Phalanx nanotech salvaged from Trask components, and delivering the two supply crates to him improves Logan’s damage resistance. Crafting and equipping the classic yellow Battle Reborn suit from this screen awards the Suit Up trophy, which is the clearest confirmation the upgrade went through.
Marvel’s Wolverine release date and platform
Marvel’s Wolverine carries a September 15, 2026 release date on PlayStation 5, with pre-orders listed alongside it. The game comes from Insomniac Games and shares continuity with the studio’s Marvel’s Spider-Man series.
Footage has been captured on PS5 Pro in 4K at 60FPS with HDR, so the presentation figures quoted around the game reflect that hardware rather than a base console baseline. If you are planning your first run, the practical takeaway is simple: learn the parry timing early, keep the Rage meter topped up for crowds, and treat R3 as the default response whenever a mission stops telling you where to go.
