Marvel’s Wolverine Pre-Load Date and 79.36GB PS5 Download Size

What digital PS5 buyers need to clear, when the download unlocks, and how the file size compares to Insomniac’s Spider-Man games.

Marvel’s Wolverine arrives on PS5 on September 15, 2026, and the storage requirement for it has now surfaced from PlayStation’s backend listings. Digital buyers get a full week of lead time to pull the game down before launch, which matters more than usual for a console where free space tends to disappear fast.

Quick answer: Clear at least 79.36GB on your PS5, and pre-loading opens at midnight local time on September 8 for anyone who has pre-ordered digitally.

Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 download size and pre-load schedule

The tracked figure is 79.36GB for the PS5 release. Pre-loading begins one week ahead of launch, and the game itself unlocks at midnight local time on release day.

DetailValue
Download size79.36GB
PlatformPlayStation 5
Pre-load opensSeptember 8, midnight local time
Release dateSeptember 15, 2026
Release timeMidnight local time
Standard Edition price$69.99
Digital Deluxe Edition price$79.99

One caveat worth holding onto. The 79.36GB number comes from PlayStation’s server data rather than the public store listing, so treat it as a working figure rather than a final, formally published install size. Builds get recompressed and patched right up to release, so leaving a few extra gigabytes free is the safer move.

Who can pre-load, and how to confirm it started

Pre-order the game digitally on the PlayStation Store. Pre-loading is tied to the digital purchase, so a physical pre-order does not unlock the early download.
Free up space before September 8. With 79.36GB as the baseline, aim for roughly 90GB of headroom so the install has room to unpack and so the day-one patch does not stall out.
Check your console after midnight local time on September 8. If your PS5 has automatic downloads enabled and is in rest mode, the transfer should begin on its own.
Verify it worked. The game tile should appear on your home screen with a download progress indicator, then switch to a locked state showing the release countdown once the transfer finishes. If the tile still reads as a pre-order with no download activity after the unlock time, restart the console and check that the purchase is licensed to the account currently signed in.

Note: pre-loaded files stay locked until the release moment. Finishing the download early does not let you start playing before midnight on September 15.

How the file size compares to Insomniac’s Spider-Man games

Just under 80GB puts Wolverine squarely in the middle of Insomniac’s Marvel catalog. It is smaller than Spider-Man 2, which is notable given that game carried an entire open-world New York and two playable Spider-Men. Wolverine is a linear, directed experience instead, moving Logan through the Canadian wilderness, Madripoor, and Japanese city streets including Shinjuku.

GameApproximate size
Marvel’s Spider-Man (PS4)45–50GB
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (PS5)50–75GB
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS5)~50GB
Marvel’s Wolverine (PS5)79.36GB
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (PS5)86–98GB

For a game without an open world to stream in, close to 80GB is a fairly dense package. That is normal territory for a modern first-party PS5 release rather than an outlier.

Budget extra space for the day-one patch

The pre-load will not be everything you need. Insomniac has confirmed a launch-day update that carries bug fixes and enables Photo Mode, so the game will pull additional data on September 15 even if the main download already completed.

Several other launch features are baked in without waiting for a patch. New Game Plus, Mission Replay, and Nightmare Challenges are all available at release, with the harder post-game runs raising Logan’s level cap and adding new adaptations to the mix. On a base PS5, the game targets 60fps with ray tracing, and the store listing also flags it as PS5 Pro Enhanced.

Physical buyers still get a disc

If you are picking up a boxed copy instead, the pre-load window does not apply, but you are not getting a download code in an empty case either. Insomniac has stated plainly that the physical version ships with a disc inside the box.

Sony has not published the 79.36GB figure on the public store page yet, so the exact final download and installed sizes should firm up once pre-loading actually begins on September 8. Until then, clearing 90GB or so is the low-effort way to make sure launch night goes smoothly.
