Sinister Tidings is the last mission of the Japan chapter in Marvel’s Wolverine, and it is one of the shortest cleanup stops in the campaign. Everything worth collecting sits in the same penthouse, within about a minute of walking, and none of it is permanently missable.

Quick answer: Mission 21 holds 2 collectibles: one Material Crate in the weapon display room and one Nightmare Door on the balcony. Both only appear after you trigger an interaction indoors.

There is no blue scent trail to chase here, so skip the usual Whisky Bottle sweep. The chapter is finished the moment the mission tracker reads 1 crate and 1 door.

At the start of the mission, trigger the interaction the game nudges you toward. Either use the bathroom sink or interact with the alcohol. Nothing spawns until one of those cutscenes plays.
Head back through the apartment to the upstairs room filled with The Hand memorabilia and weapon displays. The wooden crate sits low, tucked beneath the katana display.

Pry the crate open with your claws. You get +50 Materials, and the crate counter for the chapter ticks over to 1/1 straight away.

Materials feed suit crafting, and crafting standard suits is what raises Logan’s maximum health, so this crate is worth grabbing on the first pass rather than during a later replay.

Nightmare Door location: Crucible of Tears

After the same indoor interaction that spawns the crate, glowing purple roots appear in the bedroom. They spread in one direction only, so follow them rather than searching the floor.
Trace the roots out onto the penthouse balcony. A freestanding wooden doorway stands in the open air outside, leading into a small shed-like ruined room.
Step through and approach the purple rift labeled Crucible of Tears. A short narrative panel plays on the trial screen before the prompt to enter appears.

Press Square to ENTER TRIAL. Entering is what registers the door, so do not walk away after only revealing the rift.

How the Crucible of Tears gauntlet works

Crucible of Tears is a Gauntlet trial. The objective is simple: survive as many waves of enemies as possible in a misty, snow-covered arena filled with Hand ninjas. There is no fixed finish line, only the wave you die on.

Every five waves the run pauses and offers a choice of idols. You destroy one to apply its modifier for the waves ahead. The options include effects such as Primal, Frantic, Doomed, and Incendiary, the last of which sets your claws alight for the following stretch of combat.

Enemy composition escalates in clear steps. Early waves are standard melee ninjas, the middle stretch mixes in ranged archers and dual-wielding attackers, and the later waves throw dense groups of armored elites at you while projectiles come in from the edges. Runs that push past wave 20 lean heavily on Berserker rage and consistent dodging.

Crucible of Tears rewards by rank

Rank is driven by score, which climbs with each wave you clear. A short run ending around wave 5 lands at Bronze and pays out the +4 AP only. Longer runs stack the higher tiers on top, so a deep attempt past wave 20 can return with the suit parts and the Gold Claws in one go.

The results screen lists your completion time, the highest wave cleared, and the score. After it closes, you are returned to the cabin room with a memory unlock tied to the trial.

Confirming the chapter is complete

Open the collectible tracker in the pause menu before you move on. Sinister Tidings is finished when it reads 1 Material Crate, 0 Whisky Bottles, and 1 Nightmare Door. Story interactions do not feed those counters, so confirm the numbers changed rather than assuming a cutscene covered it.

Nothing here is permanently missable. Once Mission Replay unlocks through the Nightmare Cabin, use the bed to drop back into Mission 21. Anything already collected stays collected, so you only need to pick up whatever the tracker still flags.

Because both items sit in the same upstairs area, a replay takes only a couple of minutes. Grab the crate, enter the door, clear enough waves for the tier you are chasing, and leave as soon as the counters register.
