Medicus I is a Witchcraft perk in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and like most Witchcraft and Swordmastery upgrades, it cannot be pushed further with skill points alone. You need a physical Medicus I Manual, and one of the most reliable copies sits in a chest at the top of Rockfalls Tower.
Quick answer: Climb the ruins of Rockfalls Tower using the Clowride ability and open the chest at the top. It contains the Medicus I Manual, which unlocks the Medicus I perk under the Witchcraft tree once you read it from your inventory.
What the Medicus I perk does
Medicus I raises the limit of consumables you can carry in a Quickslot. In practice, that means more healing items and buffs available mid-fight without opening menus. It lives in the Witchcraft branch of the Character screen, alongside perks like Forager, Herbal Remedies, and Aether Flow.
Witchcraft and Swordmastery are the two trees that use manuals. Vampirism skills work differently, since those scale with your Corruption Level, which rises as you drink blood.

Add to Google Preferences →Before you go: the Clowride requirement
Rockfalls Tower sits on high rocky ground, and there is no walking path to the loot. You need the Clowride ability to pull yourself up the cliff face and to move between the broken floors inside the tower. Without it, you will reach the base and stall there.
Clowride has a fixed reach. When you aim at a ledge that is too far away, the game marks the anchor point as “Out of range” instead of letting you launch, so the climb is really a sequence of short hops rather than one long ascent.

How to reach the chest at Rockfalls Tower

Everything inside the Rockfalls Tower chest
| Item | Type |
|---|---|
| Medicus I Manual | Witchcraft skill manual |
| Martin’s Blood Infusion | Consumable |
| Ring of Fortitude | Accessory |
| Golden Cross | Valuable |
Read the manual to confirm the perk unlocked
Picking up a manual is not enough. Open your inventory, select the Medicus I Manual, and read it. Only then does it count toward the perk.
To verify, open the Character menu and switch to the Witchcraft tab. Medicus I should now be available to invest in rather than locked, and your Quickslot consumable cap goes up once you spend the point. Reading manuals can also trigger a brief jump scare, which is normal and does not mean anything went wrong.
Other places to find a Medicus I Manual
There is no hard cap on how many manuals exist in a playthrough, and more copies drop than you strictly need. If the Rockfalls Tower climb is inconvenient at your current point in the story, these are the alternatives.
| Source | Details |
|---|---|
| St. Tryna’s Grove Tower | In a chest on the tower |
| Boar’s Back Tower | In a chest on the tower |
| Vera | Witchcraft vendor in Maragir Wealds |
| Matriarch | Witchcraft vendor |
Beyond fixed spots, manuals show up in chests at Soldier Camps, Bandit Camps, Monster Lairs, and Ancient Circles, as quest rewards, and as random drops from defeated enemies. Buying is the fastest route if you have the coin, though higher-tier manuals can run into thousands of Denarius.
Why the perk still shows as locked
- The manual is sitting unread in your inventory. Open it from the inventory screen.
- You have no skill points banked. Manuals unlock the upgrade, but you still spend points to take it.
- You are looking in the wrong tab. Medicus I is under Witchcraft, not Swordmastery or Vampirism.
Once Medicus I is active, the extra Quickslot capacity pays off immediately during longer fights and night runs, when stopping to dig through the inventory is the last thing you want to do.
