Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 10: Dappled Forest Panorama and Renamed Explorer Maps

The tenth Java snapshot swaps the main menu backdrop, cleans up five Explorer Map names, and rolls back the Drowned changes.

The tenth Java snapshot swaps the main menu backdrop, cleans up five Explorer Map names, and rolls back the Drowned changes.

Minecraft 26.3 Snapshot 10 is out for Java Edition, and the change you see first happens before you even load a world. The main menu now uses a new panorama built around the Dappled Forest biome with an Abandoned Camp in view, giving the launch screen an autumn look. Beyond the backdrop, the snapshot renames several Explorer Maps, adds a Realms intro screen, reverts recent Drowned tweaks, and bumps the data and resource pack formats.

Quick answer: Open the Java launcher, switch to the Latest Snapshot install, and launch to confirm you are on 26.3 Snapshot 10. You will see the Dappled Forest panorama on the main menu, and the Data Pack format reads 118.0 with the Resource Pack format at 97.0.

New Dappled Forest panorama and the Realms intro screen

The updated main menu background shows the Dappled Forest biome alongside an Abandoned Camp structure, replacing the previous panorama. It doubles as an early preview of the biome and camp arriving in the wider 26.3 game drop.

Realms also gets a new introduction screen that lays out its main features. You can open it from the “Add Realm” button, and it appears automatically when you enter Realms if a trial is available to you.

Explorer Map renames in Snapshot 10

Five Explorer Maps were renamed for more consistent labeling. The functionality is unchanged; only the item names differ, which makes it clearer at a read which structure each map points to.

Swamp Hut Explorer MapSwamp Hut Map
Trial Chambers Explorer MapBuried Trial Chambers Map
Woodland Mansion Explorer MapWoodland Mansion Map
Jungle Pyramid Explorer MapJungle Pyramid Map

The matching structure tags were renamed as well, so #on_woodland_explorer_maps became #on_woodland_mansion_maps, #on_ocean_explorer_maps became #on_ocean_monument_maps, and #on_jungle_explorer_maps became #on_jungle_pyramid_maps. Data pack authors relying on those tags should update their references.

Gameplay and item tweaks

A handful of smaller adjustments round out the snapshot. The Drowned reverts undo behavior and animation changes made earlier in this release cycle, so the mob no longer uses its trident for melee at close range and once again has its unique trident-brandishing animation.

  • Enchantments now apply to items that take damage while shielding an Undead mob from sunlight.
  • Eating a Chorus Fruit and teleporting randomly now shows particles pointing in the direction of the teleport.
  • Subtitles now point toward the most recent sound in range, making it easier to tell where the latest nearby sound came from.
  • The Adventure Mode icon in the Game Mode Switcher is now the Buried Treasure Map.
  • Locating structures runs faster thanks to a performance improvement to the /locate path.

Note: the none swing animation type was re-added, which affects the /swing command as well as the minecraft:attack_animation and minecraft:interact_animation components.

Technical changes and pack formats

Data pack creators get the most to work with here. The snapshot introduces a new compute command and a matching compute source for /data modify, both of which evaluate a minecraft:number_provider in different contexts. New loot table types back these contexts, including minecraft:command_compute_default, minecraft:command_compute_position, and minecraft:command_compute_entity.

Block interactions moved to a new minecraft:block_transformer registry, so inline block transformer components must now reference that registry directly. The teleport_randomly consume effect gained an optional directional_particles boolean, which defaults to true and controls the Chorus Fruit particle trail. World generation also saw larger reworks, including a new minecraft:ore_vein material rule, domain-warp fields added to minecraft:noise, the removal of minecraft:shifted_noise in favor of minecraft:noise, and the renaming of preliminary_surface_level to chunk_surface_level.

Bug fixes

Snapshot 10 resolves 59 issues. Several target teleport particles and closed captions, including Shulkers not emitting particles when teleporting (MC-102881) and Endermen losing their extra teleport trail (MC-258347). Others fix long-standing quality problems, such as villagers failing to level up when they earn enough experience for more than one level (MC-265423) and a system freeze when pressing the Windows key with Exclusive Fullscreen enabled (MC-309872).

The build was released on August 25, 2026, as the tenth snapshot for the 26.3 update, which is planned for the third quarter of 2026. Because it is a testing build, back up any world before you load it, since worlds opened in a snapshot may not open cleanly in older versions.
