The first decision in Mistfall Hunter is also one of the most punishing. This is a PvPvE extraction RPG, so one bad class fit plus one overextension means your gear walks out on someone else’s body. All six classes are viable, but they reward very different habits, and the launch build has already sorted them into clear lanes for solo play, trios, and open PvP.
Quick answer: Pick Mercenary if you are new or playing solo, Sorcerer for the highest ranged damage, Shadowstrix for solo PvP ambushes, and Seer only if you are committed to supporting a trio.
Mistfall Hunter class tier list (launch)
The ranking below reflects mixed PvE and PvP performance in the July 2026 launch build, where a single run throws both monsters and rival hunters at you. Each class also carries two specializations with separate skill sets, so the “best role” column tells you where a class actually earns its spot.
| Tier | Class | Best role |
|---|---|---|
| S | Mercenary | Beginner tank, solo survivor, trio frontline |
| S | Sorcerer | Ranged AoE damage, crowd control |
| A | Blackarrow | Ranged precision damage, traps and debuffs |
| A | Withered Knight | Debuff bruiser, aggressive melee |
| B | Shadowstrix | Solo PvP assassin, burst duelist |
| B | Seer | Trio support, heals and shields |
Two things to keep in mind. Shadowstrix sits in B for general mixed runs because of its steep skill floor and thin health pool, yet it is the strongest solo PvP pick in the game when timed well. Seer is the same story in reverse. It is near-useless alone, but a good Reverent Seer can carry a trio without ever topping the damage chart.

Add to Google Preferences →Why Mercenary and Sorcerer top the list
Mercenary earns an S because it is the class most forgiving of mistakes. It runs a big sword or hammer plus a shield, and that simple kit gives it heavy armor, blocking, parries, shield bash, stuns, and knockdowns. Survivability is high, mobility is better than its bulk suggests, and a few Talent Points into damage quickly turn it into a class that holds its own against flashier picks. Its only real weakness is single-target damage against bosses and its total lack of range.

Sorcerer is the opposite personality with the same top-tier result. It brings the largest ranged damage in the game through elemental spells, plus crowd control, barriers, and blink dodges to create space. The catch is that it is a glass cannon. Get caught by a melee attacker while your resources are low and you can die in seconds, so distance management is the whole game. Played with discipline, it melts PvE bosses and can wipe grouped players before they close in.

The A-tier fighters: Blackarrow and Withered Knight
Blackarrow is the standard archer, and it lives or dies on your aim. It splits into Archer’s Arrows for burst-focused damage with knockbacks and piercing, and Hunter’s Arrows for control through traps, ailments, and damage over time. Range and status effects let you kite and whittle enemies down, but it shares the Sorcerer’s fragility. A melee player who closes the gap can end you fast, and missed shots against a mobile target waste your entire tempo.

Withered Knight plays like a hybrid of Mercenary bulk and Shadowstrix aggression. It leans on a greatsword, the Wither debuff, executions, a grappling hook, and parry counters, which gives it strong damage and better mobility than a pure tank. The payoff is high, but so is the skill ceiling. A single lapse in offensive pressure opens exploitable gaps in PvP, and it struggles to escape coordinated multi-player ambushes. It is not a class for your first hour, and it is a weak solo choice.
Shadowstrix and Seer: specialists, not all-rounders
Shadowstrix is the assassin. Stealth openers, backstabs, chase tools, slows, and re-stealth loops make it the premier solo PvP hunter, the class that decides when a fight starts and ends. It runs Dagger for ambush burst or Dual Blades for fast pressure, and can swap between them mid-run. The downside is real. It has one of the hardest execution curves in the game, low health, and it struggles badly against PvE bosses. Dive a full trio and you are just handing over your loot.
Seer is the only class that heals teammates, which makes it close to mandatory in coordinated groups. Its Reverent spec brings shields, heals, and constructs, while Blasphemer plays as an offensive rune-and-stagger hybrid. Shields tend to be more consistent than heals in messy fights, so Reverent is the safer team path. Solo, though, Seer has almost no damage and little reason to exist, which is why it drops to B despite its trio value.
Best class by playstyle
Overall tier is only part of the answer. Because solo and trio play are almost different games, match your pick to how you actually queue.
| You want | Pick | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Beginners | Mercenary | Heavy armor and forgiving health let you survive early mistakes. |
| Solo survival | Mercenary | Strong mobility and sustain for going in alone. |
| Solo PvP | Shadowstrix | Stealth and burst let you pick and end fights on your terms. |
| Ranged damage | Sorcerer | Highest spell damage and area control from range. |
| Precision damage | Blackarrow | Charged shots, traps, and debuffs for players who can aim. |
| Trio support | Seer (Reverent) | Only class that heals allies; shields keep frontliners alive. |
| Technical melee | Withered Knight | Debuff loops and executions with a high skill payoff. |
A common strong trio core is a Mercenary frontline, a ranged damage dealer like Sorcerer or Blackarrow, and a Reverent Seer holding everyone together. Stardust Sorcerer in particular climbs in trios, because its longer cast times are far safer when two teammates can peel for it.
How this ranking was decided
Placements weigh role clarity, beginner forgiveness, solo survivability, team value, and PvP pressure, plus how hard mistakes get punished in an extraction setting where losing a fight can mean losing everything. Damage output alone does not move a class up. This reflects the launch build as of late July 2026, and the meta will shift with balance patches, so it is worth rechecking after major updates. You can confirm the current class roster on the official Mistfall Hunter Steam page.
If you are still weighing it up, start with Mercenary. It teaches spacing, trades, and route discipline without demanding advanced burst or support timing, and nothing you learn there is wasted when you move on to a harder class later.
