Mistfall Hunter: How to Complete The Way Out and Escape Hallowgrove

The Way Out is the story quest that asks you to run a full extraction loop in Mistfall Hunter. Its single objective, “Head to the Hallowgrove and escape successfully 0/1,” only ticks over when you leave a Hallowgrove match alive with an extraction secured. Dying or disconnecting does not count.

Quick answer: Load into Hallowgrove on Normal, reach a Returning Chime, summon and defeat a Hallowgrove Woodling for a Soul of Return, then escape through the portal. The counter flips to 1/1 the moment your extraction completes.

The Way Out quest requirements

The quest chain here is tracked as The Last Follower – The Way Out, and the objective is scoped to Hallowgrove on Normal difficulty. Normal keeps a fragile peace compared with fully Gyldenized zones, so extraction is far easier and makes it the right place to learn the loop. Check these gates before you queue.

Prepare in camp before you launch

Clear restricted items from your loadout. Some crafting materials, ropes, and miscellaneous loot cannot be carried into a match, and if any remain in your Inventory or Pip’s Pouch, the game blocks the launch with an item reminder warning. Open the WAREHOUSE and move those items into the Storage Box on the left.

Stock up if needed. Cazarro, the merchant near the red tent, opens a SHOP with Purchase and Sell tabs where you trade using Gyldenblod, the currency that still holds value after the Mistfall. This is optional, but a topped-up bag makes the run safer.

Head to the wooden dock and interact with the longboat to open STAGE SELECTION. Confirm Hallowgrove is selected with difficulty set to Normal, then press Play to begin matchmaking. A “Finding Match…” timer appears at the bottom of the screen.

Find the Returning Chime and escape

On Hallowgrove Normal, extraction runs through two routes shown in the map legend: the Returning Chime and the Smuggler Woodling. The Returning Chime is the standard path, and the one The Way Out is built around. Its location is randomized each match, so you react to the mini-map rather than memorizing a fixed spot.

Survive the opening Safe Phase and loot as you move. Bodies like the Corroded Soldier and wooden chests hold materials such as the Fortune Bean, but the priority is reaching an exit alive.

Open the MAP and look for the green circle with a bell icon. That marker is the Returning Chime. Hovering it shows the tooltip that the chime will activate soon and can awaken a nearby slumbering Hallowed Woodling before it expires.

Travel to the waypoint. The chime is a tall wooden post hung with chimes, often behind doors like the ones into the Supreme Hall. When you reach an activated chime, hold the interact button (Square on controller) to Summon a Hallowgrove Woodling.

Follow the butterflies. After you summon, a Woodling spawns nearby and a trail of butterflies leads you to it. Defeat the Woodling to claim your Soul of Return.

Complete the escape. With the Soul of Return in hand, use the resulting Soul Tree portal to leave the match. Ring the chime at the tree to extract before it withers, since an expired tree can no longer be used to escape.

Note: A Smuggler Woodling is an alternate exit, but interacting with one lets you extract only with equipped gear and a limited selection of items. It still counts as a successful escape for the quest if the Chime route is contested.

How to confirm The Way Out is complete

The objective moves from 0/1 to 1/1 as soon as your extraction resolves and the match ends with you alive. The Way Out then clears from your active Story tracker, and the reward payout of 5 consumables, an equipment chest, and 60 gold lands in your account. If the counter still reads 0/1 after a run, the extraction did not register as a success.

Why the objective does not complete

Treat this run as the template for every future sortie. The same chime, Woodling, and Soul of Return loop carries over to harder tiers, so nailing it once on Hallowgrove Normal sets you up for the tougher zones that follow.
