Skills in Mistfall Hunter are attached to the weapon in your hands, not to a fixed class ability bar. Swap your stance and roughly half of your buttons change with it. Bellring Games shipped the launch build on July 30, 2026 at 01:00 UTC, and that patch rebalanced every class, so anything written during the beta no longer matches what you equip today.
Quick answer: Pick a class, then learn the six or seven skills tied to one weapon stance before touching the second. Your weapon determines your active skills, and each stance carries its own separate set.
Weapon stances decide your skills, not your class
Each stance runs its own skill loadout. A Mercenary carrying a Hammer will not see any Sword and Shield skills until it switches back. You can change stances mid-fight, but you are switching into an entirely different set of inputs, so both halves of a class need practice.
Not every class has both stances live at launch. Some ship with a single weapon, and one promised second weapon is still on the roadmap rather than in your inventory.
| Class | Weapon stances at launch |
|---|---|
| Mercenary | Sword and Shield, Hammer |
| Shadowstrix | Dagger, Dual Blades |
| Seer | Catalyst, Mace |
| Withered Knight | Greatsword, Polearm and Shield (new) |
| Sorcerer | Staff only |
| Blackarrow | Bow only |
Two caveats matter here. Seers cannot swap weapons mid-fight at all, because they can only use the weapon that matches their current faith. And only the Withered Knight’s second weapon made Season 1. The Blackarrow’s Javelin is planned for a later season, so any build advice built around a Blackarrow Javelin describes something you cannot equip right now.
Note: Skill counts can be misleading. Derived skills such as follow-ups, counters, air strikes, and post-dodge hits have their own data entries but take no slot. A class showing 24 entries does not have 24 usable slots.

Add to Google Preferences →Talents, resources, and Breakaway
Talents are where two players running the same base skill end up with different versions of it. Branches are frequently mutually exclusive, so your choices lock you into one shape of a skill. Unofficially, there are eight talent points spread across twelve levels.
The resource system was rebuilt. The old Exhaustion penalty is gone, and dodging now runs on its own charge instead of draining a shared pool, which makes beta advice about conserving Energy irrelevant. Three resources exist across the roster: Energy, Psionic Energy for the Reverent Seer, and Curse Mana for the Blasphemer.
Breakaway is the third pillar of combat and functions as your panic button when you are stagger-locked. Timing it well saves more runs than any single talent pick.
Frontline melee: Mercenary and Withered Knight
The Mercenary is the durable bruiser and still the most forgiving class to learn. Earthshaker is its commit button, with two charge levels, Super Armor, and an area slow. Shield Dash pairs with Perfect Parry, whose window widened at launch alongside PvE buffs to Skullcrusher and Shockwave Strike. Impalement now costs less to activate, so you can lean on it to reposition.

The Withered Knight is built around Wither and executions. The Greatsword loop is simple in concept: stack Wither, then Execute. Thorn Guide pulls normal enemies toward you, but against a large or protected target it drags you to them instead, so watch your positioning.
The Polearm and Shield is the genuinely new addition. It offers longer reach, charge that builds while you are actively blocking, ranged rescues of downed teammates, six new skills, and talents that mix into the Greatsword branch. Quick Shield Bash is the aggressive option, while Enhanced Shield Bash peels with area knockback.
Ranged damage: Sorcerer and Blackarrow
The Sorcerer is Staff only and splits between elemental reactions and Stardust, which skips the chant phase for faster casts. Forbidden Gate stops enemies and their projectiles while your squad shoots through the opening, which is what wins many extraction fights. The biggest launch change is that Fire Bolt, Thunderstrike, and Meteor Charm now fast-cast even with empty Energy and still recover Energy, so the class never goes fully silent.

The Blackarrow is Bow only and divides into the charged-shot Archer and the fast-fire debuff Hunter. Predator’s Senses pings nearby players and leaves scent trails, with limited uses. After launch, Featherlight Arrow no longer needs a full charge, while Splatter Arrow’s Sepsis now does, which cleanly separates the two builds. Archer is the charged path, Hunter is the fast path, and mixing them is now a mistake.

Stealth burst: Shadowstrix
The Shadowstrix leans on stealth, poison, and short-range burst across Dagger and Dual Blades, and it is the hardest class for a newcomer to commit to. Shadow Strike leaves an afterimage that attacks and can stun, and it now gains the new Ambush Momentum talent.
The important nerf is that Crow Storm can no longer stack on a player who is already stunned. Endless stun chains are gone, which means your opener has to land to get value.
Support: Seer and its two faiths
The Seer splits into two very different weapons tied to faith. The Reverent uses the Catalyst for healing constructs, while the Blasphemer uses the Mace for curses and pressure. Because you cannot swap between them mid-fight, your faith choice defines the run.
Binding Rune refunds Psionic Energy when it binds a player, and Death Ward can stop a death outright. At launch the Catalyst gained faster channels and a larger enhanced-orb hitbox. The Mace was toned down instead, with Shapeshift made shorter and slower and Paralysis Curse losing range. The Blasphemer keeps its short-range chasing, but the long-distance disengage is no longer available.
Holy weapons add a third skill layer
Holy weapons are a new tier dropped by map bosses, and each boss carries its own. Bellring designed them to carry exclusive gameplay affixes that reshape how skills behave rather than simply raising numbers. That gives every skill three layers to account for: the base version, the talent-modified version, and the Holy version.
Best skills for a specific goal
| Goal | Skills to reach for |
|---|---|
| Escaping | Mistwalk, Phantom Shift, Smoke Bomb, Shadow Step |
| Closing distance | Shield Dash, Impalement, Breakthrough Charge |
| Team survival | Healing Rune, Death Ward, Enhanced Shield Bash |
| Lockdown | Gravitational Vortex, Deep Freeze, Poison Crow Mark, Binding Rune |
| Holding ground | Forbidden Gate, the strongest area denial available |
| PvE clearing | Skullcrusher, Stardust Tempest, the Wither and Execute loop |
| Information | Predator’s Senses, Eye of Insight |
In an extraction game, information tools like Predator’s Senses and Eye of Insight often matter more than raw damage, since knowing where other players are shapes every fight before it starts. The practical way in is to master one stance and its handful of buttons, then add the second stance once the first feels automatic.
