Captain John Price fighting Ghost and Gaz is the moment Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has built its whole campaign hook around, and it lands during a nighttime SAS raid on a Mumbai high-rise. Price has gone off-book and teamed up with cartel leader Valeria Garza, which puts him on the opposite side of his former Task Force 141 operators Simon “Ghost” Riley and Kyle “Gaz” Garrick.
Quick answer: Price and Valeria set off an EMP that blacks out the city, Task Force 141’s Bravo-6 is sent to capture or kill him, and the raid ends with a Ghost-versus-Price knife duel before Valeria ambushes and captures both Ghost and Gaz for the inbound figure known as the Archer.
Why Price is being hunted by his own team
The campaign begins with Task Force 141 already dissolved. After General Shepherd dies at the end of Modern Warfare III, Price goes on the run and works beyond official command. Activision casts the breakup as a dispute over limits: Gaz says there is a boundary they will not cross, while Price replies that they set it wherever they have to.
That friction turns the former squad against each other. Ghost and Gaz are handed a capture or kill order on their old captain, while Kate Laswell stays in contact with Price but grows wary of his methods. With his usual allies now hunting him, Price finds help where he can, which is how Valeria Garza, leader of the Las Almas Cartel, ends up fighting alongside him.
The Mumbai blackout: EMP deployment and the helicopter crash
The sequence opens with the player controlling Price as he and Valeria leap across rooftops and move into a building. Price passes a weapon package to Valeria, who activates it. The device is an electromagnetic pulse that kills power across the entire city.

The blackout has an immediate cost. SAS helicopter Blackjack 2-1 loses power and crashes into the favela below, and the whole city goes dark. From inside their own transport, Gaz and Ghost register what just happened and press on toward the target high-rise where Price and Valeria are headed.

Bravo-6’s descent through the high-rise
Control shifts to Gaz as Bravo-6 approaches the skyscraper. The team is Gaz leading, with Ghost, Wallcroft, and Griffin. Their primary objective is the weapon, and Price and Valeria are both marked capture or kill. A strafing run using hybrid thermal night vision clears hostiles off the rooftop helipad before the squad touches down.

Rather than entering from the top, Bravo-6 hooks rappel lines and descends the exterior of the tower. The team shoots armed defenders on the outer balconies on the way down before breaching an interior entrance.

The defenders inside are a mix of allied Russian mercenaries and Mexican cartel fighters, which confirms to the squad that Price is working with Valeria. Once inside, the team works downward through reception and dining areas, a kitchen and bar lounge, then hotel suites and bedrooms left dark by the blackout.

While Bravo-6 pushes down, the radio chatter does a lot of the storytelling. Price cuts into the squad’s comms, trading bitter lines with Gaz about their shared past and the cost of their earlier missions. Wallcroft reports that other Bravo elements made contact higher up, with Valeria sighted on the 25th floor and Price engaged up on the 28th. That’s the point the team splits: Ghost calls Price for himself, and Gaz takes Valeria and the weapon.

Ghost vs. Price: the rooftop knife duel
The one-on-one fight is the centerpiece. Playing as Ghost, you stalk Price through a dark corridor wrapped in plastic sheeting while he taunts you to face him. Ghost ambushes him from behind and tackles him straight through a large glass window onto an exterior glass platform high above the city.
This is a close-quarters knife duel driven by quick-time prompts, not a gunfight. Follow the on-screen cues to block just before a strike lands, then parry, counterattack, and perform takedowns as Price and Ghost exchange blows and dispute their orders. Their struggle reaches the edge of the glass flooring, where Ghost sends Price through a skylight; the fight carries on inside.
Throughout the exchange, Price insists he is only there for the Archer and warns Ghost that he does not want to kill him. Ghost refuses every chance to stand down, repeating that he has orders and that Price is now on the wrong side.
Valeria’s ambush and the Archer handoff
Gaz arrives and holds a wounded Price at gunpoint, telling him to stay down. Price recovers, sets off a flash grenade, and pulls Gaz into a chokehold as a human shield while Ghost aims his sidearm at the pair. It becomes a three-way standoff, with Gaz urging Ghost to take the shot.
The standoff ends without a clear resolution. Valeria and armed cartel fighters emerge from hiding, disarm Ghost, and force both operators to the ground. She tells Price the capture “wasn’t part of the deal,” then demands Ghost and Gaz as compensation for using the weapon. Valeria confirms that the rest of Gaz’s squad is gone, leaving only him and Ghost.
The sequence closes with Valeria warning Price that the Archer is inbound and that she gets paid first. She says she has the rooftop covered as they prepare for the arrival and escort their captives away. A separate stretch of footage carries the moment further, with the Archer’s helicopter touching down, the EMP canister handed over, and the Archer’s snipers then turning on the cartel, cutting down Valeria’s people before dragging a restrained Price aboard.
What the “weapon of war” actually does and who the Archer really is have not been confirmed by Infinity Ward, so treat any specific claim about either as unverified until the full campaign is out.
When you can play the sequence
This Mumbai raid is one of the SAS night-raid set pieces in the campaign, which also spans trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, and chases through Paris. Campaign early access began October 16, 2026 for anyone who digitally pre-ordered the Standard or Vault edition, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches in full on October 23, 2026 across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. A physical disc copy does not grant the early-access week; it has to be a digital pre-order.
For anyone who only saw the reveal footage, the confrontation isn’t a cutscene you watch from the sidelines. You play both the setup and the fight itself, stepping into Price during the EMP opening and the knife duel, Gaz during the strafing run and the interior push, and Ghost during the stalk and the rooftop showdown. The reveal trailer lays out the wider war that frames it all.
