The Love Potion boosts affection from gifts for one night, and here is the full recipe and how to trigger the effect.

The Love Potion in Moonlight Peaks does not make anyone fall for you the moment you drink it. Instead, it works as a temporary buff. When you are under its effect, every gift you hand to an NPC grants more affection than it normally would, which speeds up both friendships and romances.

Quick answer: Drink a Love Potion at night, then give gifts before you rest. The affection boost from those gifts lasts for one night and ends the moment you sleep in your coffin.

What the Love Potion does

Consuming a Love Potion applies an affection bonus to any gift you give while the effect is active. If a character already loves a certain item, giving it during the buff pushes their affection up even further. The potion changes the value of your gifts, not the feelings of the person you talk to on the spot.

The effect lasts a single Night and disappears when you sleep in your coffin to pass to the next day. To get the most out of one dose, hand out as many gifts as you can during that same night.

If you would rather not use it, a Love Potion sells for 2,200 Coins.

How to consume the Love Potion

Open your inventory and select the Love Potion, then choose Consume. The potion is removed from your inventory and the affection buff is applied to your character.

While the buff is active, give gifts to the NPCs you want to build relationships with. Favorite gifts gain the largest bump, so prioritize characters whose preferred items you already carry.
Rest in your coffin once you are done gifting. The buff ends here, so make sure you have handed out every gift you intended to before sleeping.

Unlock potion brewing first

You cannot brew a Love Potion until you can brew potions at all. Potions are made at a Cauldron, and that crafting station only becomes usable after you finish the Mend it with Magic story quest.

The quest begins when a package containing your mother’s cauldron arrives at your front door. The cauldron breaks in transit, so you take it to Fiona for repairs. She needs 2 Mana Essence, which you produce with the Mana Extractor using the essence from magical crops. Return the Mana Essence to Fiona and she fixes the cauldron, letting you place it in your base and start brewing.

You also need the recipe itself. Buy the Love Potion recipe from Sabrina at the Webb of Wonders for 4,000 Coins. Recipes must be purchased before you can use them, so you cannot simply throw ingredients into the Cauldron and hope for a result.

Love Potion recipe and ingredients

Each Love Potion takes five ingredients, brewed at the Cauldron. Several of them require late-game unlocks, so expect the full recipe to take time to assemble.

IngredientHow to obtain it
Hold-Me-CloseA magical Spring crop bought from Luna’s Seed Stall. It matures in 13 days and turns nearby Weeping Wiccas into Sweet Wiccas when planted.
Muse NutDrops from Muse Trees. Buy Muse Tree Seeds from Luna’s Seed Stall in any season; the trees only grow with a gramophone nearby.
AmourA fish caught in the Pink Grove at the top right of the map. The area only opens after you unlock Mermaid Form.
Suffrain PowderProduced from Suffrain, a Herb Garden crop. Suffrain Seeds are sold at Luna’s Seed Stall during Winter and Autumn.
Luck DustFarmed from Rabbiculas, available at Luna’s Farm from Spring, Year 2. A fed, happy Rabbicula creates dig spots that drop Luck Dust when dug up.

Keep one for the “A Magical Cocktail” achievement

One of the trickier achievements in the game, “A Magical Cocktail,” asks you to drink all 9 potion types in a single night. If you do not plan to use your Love Potion for its gifting buff, hold onto at least one in home storage so it is ready when you attempt that achievement.
