You start Morioh High with no Stand, and nothing you do while standing around in class will change that. Awakening your first one comes down to three specific conditions, and only one of them is guaranteed. Here is exactly what triggers each method and how to confirm it worked.

Quick answer: Lose a real fight (1 in 5 chance per knockout), win an Occult Club case without a Stand (1 in 20 chance), or hold a Stand Arrow until its compatibility meter hits 100% for a guaranteed awakening.

The three ways to awaken your first Stand

Each method is spelled out in the in-game Student’s Encyclopedia, under the Stands section. Two of them are chance-based, and the third is a certainty if you can hold onto the item long enough. Which Stand you actually get is random by rarity.

Awaken a Stand by losing a real fight

A knockout from another player during an actual fight gives your Stand a 1 in 5 chance to awaken immediately. It has to be a proper fight: resetting your character, falling, or being hit while at 1 health won’t qualify. You can only get one eligible roll per minute.

Because the odds reset once a minute, a losing streak is not wasted time here. If a knockout succeeds, the Stand appears without any further input from you. Getting dropped in combat is, oddly, one of the most reliable paths to your first Stand.

Awaken a Stand through Occult Club cases

If you have no Stand, each Occult Club case you win gives you a 1 in 20 chance of awakening one. The game checks shortly after you arrive back at school, rather than during the case. Since this route has worse odds than fighting, use it as a bonus, not your main plan.

Find and use a Stand Arrow

The Stand Arrow is the sole guaranteed way to awaken a Stand. It spawns only in a server with 3 or more players. If it lands on school grounds, every player hears an alert, and its purple outline remains visible through walls. There can be just one at a time; if no one collects it, it vanishes from the ground after 5 minutes.

Watch the bottom of the screen for “The Stand Arrow has landed,” then follow the purple glow visible through the environment to track it down.

Approach the Arrow and hold E to collect it. A compatibility meter will appear; it gains a pulse every few seconds while you stand on the ground.
Hold onto the Arrow until the meter is full. At 100%, it activates automatically. With no Stand, you’ll awaken one; with an existing Stand, you’ll receive a different one at no cost.

Holding the Arrow outlines you in purple for everyone in the server, so expect to be attacked while the meter climbs. You drop it the moment you are knocked down, leave the map, sit, start a lesson or a sport, or use a hiding skill. Cream’s void, Sticky Fingers’ zipper, and King Crimson’s time erasure all drop it, and pressing E twice drops it on purpose.

After an Arrow works for you, you cannot pick up another one for 30 minutes. Do not waste time chasing a fresh spawn while that cooldown is running.

Rerolling for a different Stand

Once you have any Stand, you can roll for a different one. A reroll costs 100 Rerolls or 10 Arrow Shards, and the result is random by rarity. The game never gives you the Stand you already own, so every reroll is guaranteed to be something new.

Stand rarities in the encyclopedia

The encyclopedia catalog lists every Stand you can roll, grouped by rarity. Legendary entries sit at the top end, while the Commons are the ones you are most likely to see early.

Controls for using your Stand

Once a Stand is awakened, it runs on a 100-point meter and three main inputs. The meter drains while the Stand is out and recharges once it is put away, so you cannot keep it summoned forever.

  • Z summons or withdraws your Stand.
  • Press the right mouse button to begin the barrage. Keep it held through the barrage and finisher, or release it to end the attack early.
  • X activates the Stand’s unique skill, which is different for every Stand.
  • With a microphone, you can summon by name, call the skill, and start the barrage with a battle cry.

The meter drains at 0.4 per second while the Stand is out, minus 1 for each barrage hit and minus 12 for a skill use. It refills at 1 per second, but only after the Stand has been withdrawn for 4.5 seconds. If the meter reaches zero, the Stand is forced away and cannot be resummoned for 10 seconds, so leave yourself a buffer rather than draining it dry mid-fight.

How to know it worked

A fight or Occult Club awakening happens on its own the moment the roll succeeds, with the Stand appearing without any extra input. With an Arrow, the confirmation is the compatibility meter filling to 100% and the Arrow consuming itself. After any of the three, press Z and your Stand should summon. If it does, you have one, and you are free to start rerolling toward a rarity you prefer.
