In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ, Eye in the Sky is order 01 on DMZ ORDERS PG 2, under the chapter CH. UNDERGROUND 1/2, ahead of Watch for Bumps and Triangulation in the Underground orders. It asks you to take over an anti-air launcher, use it to knock a supply helicopter out of the sky, and then grab what falls out. You don’t aim anything yourself. The launcher handles the shooting once you’ve captured it.

Quick answer: Interact with the laptop on a marked SAM launcher, then remain in the zone until the capture meter completes. Let the SAM take down a cargo chopper, then use the tac map to loot its care package.

Eye in the Sky order objectives

The order lists three tasks. They tick off one after another as you go, so the order screen also works as your progress check.

  • Commandeer a SAM Site
  • Shoot Down a Chopper Carrying Cargo With a SAM Site
  • Loot a Crate From a Downed Chopper

SAM site locations that work for Eye in the Sky

SAM sites appear on the tac map as a launcher icon. Hover over one and it reads “SAM SITE”, and you can ping it from there. The three sites below work for the order. They are not a complete list of SAM sites.

SAM siteThreatWhere it sits
DeadtownLOWSouth-west edge, by the gas station road
Imjin FarmlandLOWEast of Deadtown, across the river
NuriGO MallMEDIUMBeyond the mall’s northern edge, above The Grid

Deadtown and Imjin Farmland are the calmer starts. The NuriGO Mall site sits next to The Grid, which is a high-threat area, so approach it from the north.

How to capture a SAM site and down the cargo chopper

Open the tac map, ping one of the SAM sites, and drive to it. If you’d rather avoid a big fight, pick Deadtown or Imjin Farmland.

Take out the troops posted around the launcher first. That way, the capture starts with only the reinforcements left to deal with.
Activate the laptop fixed to the launcher’s side when the “CAPTURE SAM SITE” prompt appears. This adds a “Capture SAM Site” side op under SIDE-OPS and displays a CAPTURE TIME bar.

Remain in the launcher’s vicinity while the CAPTURE TIME bar completes. Leaving the zone halts progress, and enemy reinforcements may arrive in trucks to challenge the capture, so fight without moving away from the launcher. When the bar reaches full, Commandeer a SAM Site is complete.

If you chase enemies away from the site, the capture stops until you return.

Wait near the site. The captured SAM fires at a chopper carrying cargo on its own and brings it down, and Shoot Down a Chopper Carrying Cargo With a SAM Site ticks off.

Finding and looting the downed chopper crate

When the chopper goes down, the tac map shows two separate things. The wreck is a red helicopter icon. The cargo crate has its own care package marker, and that marker is the one you want. The crate can land some distance from the wreck. One came down on a rooftop in Deadtown, and another landed on a road on the south-east shore below Songdo Wharf (South Korean Shoreline).

Open the tac map and find the care package marker rather than the wreck icon. Ping it so the route stays on your screen.
Head straight for the marker. Other squads can spot the drop as well, so do not stop on the way.
Hold the interact control at the crate while the “HOLD TO OPEN CARE PACKAGE” prompt is displayed. After opening, it is identified as a CARE PACKAGE LOOT CONTAINER.
Take items from the container. Looting it ticks off Loot a Crate From a Downed Chopper, and with that Eye in the Sky is done.

The crate’s contents vary. Drops have included a Claymore, a lethal described as a “Proximity activated explosive mine”, and a Bandage. Grab what you need quickly and move, because other squads can see the drop too.
