The flashy pass in NBA 2K27 uses a new input this year, so old habits will throw a plain pass instead. It slings the ball behind the back or drops a no-look feed, letting you reach a teammate from an angle a normal pass can’t cover. It also feeds real progression, since a flashy pass that leads to a basket counts toward Playmaking goals and a MyCareer story beat.
Quick answer: Hold RB (Xbox) or R1 (PS5) and flick the right stick toward your open teammate. If that teammate scores right after, it registers as a flashy assist.

Flashy pass controls in NBA 2K27
The key difference from every other pass is the stick you use to aim. A normal pass and most variants read the left stick, but the flashy pass reads the right stick angle instead. There is no auto-locked player icon, so the ball follows exactly where you point.

How to turn a flashy pass into a flashy assist
A flashy pass on its own does not count as a flashy assist. The teammate you fed has to make the shot immediately after receiving it. The pass is the setup, and the made basket is what registers.
Right after the pass connects, mash X on Xbox or Square on PS5 to force the AI teammate to shoot. If the shot goes in, the assist is credited. Mashing the button is the reliable way to get the shot off before defenders recover.
A completed flashy assist counts as a normal assist. There is no separate bonus, extra assist, or Takeover buff tied to it in NBA 2K27. The value is in style and in the Playmaking goals it advances.
What flashy assists unlock
Flashy assists feed progression that normal passes never touch. On a Playmaking build, they push your Playmaking Goal Progress and the specialization goal Saucy, which asks for 350 flashy assists. The MyCareer story also gates the Fire and Concrete questline behind flashy assists, so learning the input clears those objectives as you play.
Higher tiers of the Versatile Visionary, Dimer, and Bail Out Badges support flashy passing and your passing game overall, leading to more assists. These pair well with high ball control and passing ratings.

Why the flashy pass fails, and how to fix it
The most common turnover comes from throwing flashy passes into traffic. The animation runs longer than a normal pass, which gives defenders extra time to jump the lane and steal it. Save these for open lanes and fast breaks.
- Poor ballhandler: attempting a flashy pass with a player who has weak passing simply gives the ball away. Only try it with someone who handles the ball well.
- Wrong stick: using the left stick throws a different pass. The flashy pass reads the right stick only.
- Congested aim: because the game follows the stick angle rather than a locked icon, a crowded lane sends the ball to the wrong man. Flick toward a single clearly open teammate.
There is no toggle to disable the flashy pass animation. If you keep firing it by accident, the fix is on your side of the controller, adjusting your input, direction, and target so the variant only triggers when you mean it.

Wrap pass: the tight-space companion
When a flashy pass would get read in a half-court set, the wrap pass fits better. Double-tap B on Xbox or Circle on PS5, and aim it with the left stick. The passer shields the ball with their body to bend it around a defender.
It trades a little pace for safety, making it far less likely to be intercepted when you are pressed or double-teamed. To perform it, the ball-carrier must be guarded or under pressure. Like the flashy pass, it works best with a player who has solid passing stats.
To drill both throws, run a 5-vs-5 scrimmage from the Learn 2K tab on the main menu. Repeating the inputs there is the fastest way to replace last year’s muscle memory before you take them into MyCareer or online play.
