Neverness to Everness: Should You Pull Blackbird or Lacrimosa in 1.4?

A breakdown of what each Phase 1 banner offers and which one earns the higher priority for most rosters.

A breakdown of what each Phase 1 banner offers and which one earns the higher priority for most rosters.

NTE Version 1.4, titled For Whom the Verses Mourn, puts two damage dealers on the same board. Blackbird debuts as a new limited character, and Lacrimosa returns on a rerun. Both slot into DPS roles, both are strong, and both sit in the game’s top tier, so the choice comes down to what your account is missing.

Quick answer: Prioritize Blackbird. She is the game’s first pure limited sub-DPS and fits far more teams. Pull Lacrimosa only if you specifically want a Scorch/DoT main carry and skipped her earlier.

Phase 1 banner window and characters

Both featured units run together in the first half of Version 1.4, so you do not have to wait for one to appear after the other. The first half lasts 21 days before Akane Rin takes over in Phase 2.

The Limited Boards share their main character pull progression, so moving between the two active banners does not reset your pity. Skin Perks are tracked separately per board, and Lacrimosa’s Skin Perks event returns with her.

Blackbird: The most flexible pull

Blackbird is an S-Rank Psyche character and the game’s first exclusively limited-time sub-DPS. That makes her a stronger pick than Lacrimosa for most accounts. A sub-DPS who brings genuine value can fit into many different teams without tying you to a single damage type.

Instant Cycle is the foundation of her kit: Chain Cage marks foes with Forsaken Feather, and a hit from another active teammate on a marked enemy calls in a coordinated Forsaken Bird attack. Requies Animarum shifts her into Witch of Deliverance form, unleashes heavy Psyche damage, and temporarily boosts ATK for the entire team.

What makes her easy to fit into a team:

  • Team-wide ATK buff from her Ultimate, plus Crit DMG for the party if you own her signature Arc.
  • Low field time, so you can swap her out quickly and let a main DPS take over.
  • Works with Lakshana carries such as Akane Rin or Chaos, on top of Chaos and Nova setups.

Her signature Arc, Crime and Punishment, is her best-in-slot choice in every role but pure sub-DPS. It has 570 base ATK, 24% CRIT Rate, 72 Cycle Intensity, and 20% Psyche DMG. After her Ultimate, the team gains 16% CRIT DMG for 15 seconds, while Blackbird receives 32%. If you pass on this Arc, Good Boy’s Grand Adventure and the A-rank Watch Your Heads! are both strong alternatives.

Lacrimosa: The Scorch and DoT specialist

Lacrimosa ranks among the game’s most powerful main DPS units, though her strengths apply to a specific niche. She shines in damage-over-time and Break teams, using Nightmare stacks to deal ongoing damage and pairing especially well with Zankou in Scorch teams. Since she is a rerun, her kit, gear options, and team compositions are already well established, so you can clearly see what she offers.

Her main drawback is limited flexibility: she is a dedicated DPS whose DoT teams depend on the Scorch effect. If you already have a built DoT or Scorch carry, she adds less that is new. She can fit into a double-DPS lineup with Zankou, Daffodil, or Baicang, and her out-of-combat flight mode helps with exploration.

Her A1 Awakening, Morning Spell, auto-casts her Support Skill and triggers its cycle without needing Cycle Rate buildup. If you commit to Lacrimosa as a carry, that node meaningfully improves how easy she is to pilot.

They work better together

You can field Blackbird and Lacrimosa together; their kits directly synergize through the Nova Esper Cycle. Both also work well alongside Zankou, arguably the game’s strongest damage dealer. One of Version 1.4’s most powerful team compositions puts the two of them in the same lineup.

If your currency allows for both, that team gives you a top-tier Version 1.4 lineup. For everyone else, the priority order still favors Blackbird first.

Who to prioritize on your account

Blackbird is the higher-value pull for the widest range of rosters. As the first pure limited sub-DPS, she buffs the team, needs little field time, and plugs into Psyche, Chaos, Nova, and Lakshana teams alike. If you already run a well-built Psyche DPS, her priority drops unless you specifically want her playstyle.

Go for Lacrimosa if you lack a dedicated DoT or Scorch main carry and want to build the Zankou Scorch core around her. Skip her if you already own an invested on-field carry or do not have the Discord and reaction enablers her teams depend on. Because Blackbird arrives first and both halves last 21 days, F2P and low-spend accounts have room to test her before committing everything.
