Palia: How to Make Macarons

The recipe needs two Mixing Stations, four ingredients, and a grocery list buried in Bahari Bay.

The recipe needs two Mixing Stations, four ingredients, and a grocery list buried in Bahari Bay.

Macarons are one of the few dishes in Palia that quietly break the normal cooking routine. Everything about the recipe looks simple — four cheap ingredients, a one-minute cook time — but the crafting menu refuses to finish the batch unless you have a second Mixing Station sitting next to the first one. That single requirement is what stops most players cold.

Quick answer: Place two Mixing Stations near each other. Start the Macaron recipe at the first station, walk to the second and craft Ground Sweet Leaf from a Sweet Leaf, then bring that Ground Sweet Leaf back to the first station and finish the stir to get 3x Macaron.

Macaron recipe requirements in Palia

The recipe entry describes macarons as light cookie sandwiches filled with buttercream, and flags “Cooking Station Required” — that line is the game telling you a single station is not enough.

Note: the Focus restored by a macaron has been listed at both 100 Focus (150 at star quality) and 225 Focus (337 at star quality) depending on the version of the recipe you are looking at. Either way, it is a cheap dish to spam for cooking XP.

Unlock the recipe with the Great Human Bake-Off quest

Reth does not sell this one. Macarons come from a discovery quest called The Great Human Bake-Off, and nothing points you toward it — you have to dig it up yourself.

Travel to the Flooded Steps in Bahari Bay, north of the Flooded Fortress. Fast travel between the Kilima and Bahari central stables costs 25 gold if you would rather skip the walk.
Find the glowing dig spot near the base of the steps, by the edge of the road, and dig it up. You will pull out an item called “A Very Old… Grocery List?”
Open your inventory and read the grocery list. That starts the quest and sends you back to Kilima Village to ask around about the document.
Talk to Hekla and pick the dialogue option about the ancient document. She explains it is not a grocery list at all — it is a human recipe for macarons, and she is the one who tells you to go bake them.

Grab a Sweet Leaf while you are still in Bahari Bay. It grows around the same area, so picking one up saves a return trip.

Where to buy or forage the four ingredients

Three of the four ingredients are shop items, so no gardening or ranching is involved. The fourth is a foraged spice.

Sweet Leaf is an uncommon gatherable that shows up around the Statue Garden, Thorny Thicket, the Outskirts, Proudhorn Pass, the Flooded Steps, and the Ancient Aqueduct. Look for a plant with green leaves tipped in orange. Flour, eggs, and milk also turn up as quest rewards from time to time, so check your inventory before spending gold.

How to get two Mixing Stations

The Mixing Station plans come from Reth at the Tavern once you hit cooking level 3. Buy the plans, then build each station at your Worktable using 20x Sapwood Plank, 2x Copper Bar, and 3x Fabric.

You need that material cost twice. If you already built one Mixing Station for pies or cakes, you are only one more away — but macarons will not complete with a single station no matter how the ingredients are arranged.

How to cook macarons at two Mixing Stations

Place both Mixing Stations on your plot, right next to each other. You will be walking between them mid-recipe, and the timer keeps running while you do.

Check that you are carrying 1x Flour, 1x Egg, 1x Milk, and 1x Sweet Leaf. The Sweet Leaf goes in as a raw leaf, not as a purchased sugar.

Interact with the first Mixing Station, select Macaron from the recipe list, and hit Make. The station will now sit waiting on Ground Sweet Leaf, which you cannot make here while this recipe is running.
Walk to the second Mixing Station, select Ground Sweet Leaf, and press Make. This is the whole reason for the second station — it turns your Sweet Leaf into a sugar the recipe can use.

Complete the stirring mini-game at the second station and collect the finished Ground Sweet Leaf into your inventory.
Return to the first station, add the Ground Sweet Leaf to the mix, and finish the final stir. The batch resolves in about a minute and hands you three macarons.

Confirming the batch and common failure points

You know it worked when the first station throws up a “Success!” message and “+3 Macaron” drops into your inventory. If nothing happens, the cause is almost always one of these:

  • Only one Mixing Station is placed, so Ground Sweet Leaf can never be made in parallel.
  • The Ground Sweet Leaf was crafted but never collected and added back into the first station.
  • You are missing one of the four ingredients, or you are holding a processed sugar instead of a raw Sweet Leaf.
  • The recipe is not unlocked yet because Hekla has not identified the grocery list.

Once the macarons are in hand, head back to Hekla and tell her the bake worked. That closes The Great Human Bake-Off and pays out quest XP plus 10+ Renown. After that the recipe stays in your Mixing Station list permanently, and at roughly 94 gold of ingredients for three macarons worth 21 gold each, it is worth cooking for the cooking XP and Focus rather than for profit.
