Version 1.0 of Palworld sets the highest level you and your Pals can reach at 80. Once you hit that number, experience stops counting and neither your character nor your Pals can climb any higher through normal play.
Quick answer: The maximum level in Palworld 1.0 is 80 for both the player and every Pal. If your progress bar stops filling and no level-up prompt appears, you have reached the cap.

What changed with the Version 1.0 cap
Before 1.0, the ceiling sat at Level 65. The 1.0 update raised it by 15 levels to 80, and the same limit applies to your captured Pals. The developers extended the Technology tree so those extra levels still unlock new things to craft rather than leaving you with empty experience gains.
High-difficulty content was rebalanced around the new number too. Raid bosses, Tower Boss Hard Mode, and oil rigs were tuned for a Level 80 endgame, so pushing toward the cap is worth it before you tackle the toughest fights.

Every level your character gains does two concrete things. First, it opens more entries in the Technology tab, which you then unlock with Technology Points and Ancient Technology Points. These recipes drive most of your crafting and base progression.
Second, each level up hands you a Stat point. You spend it to raise your character’s core stats, which improves survivability and general ease of play. Reaching 80 therefore means the full pool of technologies and the largest possible batch of Stat points.

Palworld level cap history by update
The cap started at 50 when the game first launched and rose across several major updates. Note that the Home Sweet Home update did not change it.
| Update | Level cap |
|---|---|
| Original launch | 50 |
| 0.3.1 Sakurajima | 55 |
| 0.4.11 Feybreak | 60 |
| 0.6.0 Tides of Terraria | 65 |
| Version 1.0 | 80 |
How to confirm you are at the cap
You have reached the limit when your level reads 80, and the experience bar no longer moves after combat, catching, or crafting. No level-up notification will appear, and Pals in your party behave the same way once they hit 80.
If your character seems stuck below 80 but you are still earning experience, you simply have not accumulated enough yet. Higher levels take more experience per rank, so the climb slows noticeably near the top.

Going beyond 80 with mods
The 80 ceiling is the official limit in unmodded play. On PC, a level-cap mod can push both the player and Pals past it, with options that raise the maximum to 70, 79, or 98. These rely on a UE4SS setup and work on Steam and Game Pass installs, though they may not run on Linux or Steam Deck.
Note: back up your world before adding any mod, and remove stale mod files from older Early Access versions rather than only disabling them, since leftover files can corrupt a 1.0 save.
