Palworld Coal Locations: Where to Find and Farm Coal

Exact coordinates for the richest coal nodes, plus how to mine and automate a steady supply.

Exact coordinates for the richest coal nodes, plus how to mine and automate a steady supply.

Coal is one of the key mid-to-late game resources in Palworld, feeding the Refined Ingots and Carbon Fiber you need for better weapons, armor, and structures. It appears as dark, sharp-edged rock nodes in dry, rocky, and mountainous terrain, and a few spots on Palpagos Island are far denser than the rest.

Quick answer: The most reliable coal nodes sit in the Twilight Dunes Desert near the center of the map at roughly (-157, -92) and (-97, -120). Mine them with any pickaxe while wearing heat-resistant armor.

Best coal locations and coordinates

Coal clusters where the ground turns dry and rocky, so the desert and elevated mountain edges give the highest yields. The two desert spots below are the easiest to reach early, while the northern and mountain sites pay off once you have a flying mount.

AreaCoordinatesWhat you’ll find
Twilight Dunes Desert(-157, -92)Five coal nodes; watch for the Alpha Anubis nearby
Twilight Dunes Desert(-97, -120)Around six coal nodes on a secluded rock formation
Verdant Brook(190, -41)Roughly eight coal nodes with ore close by
Verdant Brook(291, -19)Around six coal nodes, extra ore a short walk east
Sealed Realm of the GuardianNear (189, -37)Six coal nodes plus eight ore nodes on the mountaintop
Mount Obsidian region(-570, -652)Six coal nodes near the Anubis statue in the volcanic zone
North of Duneshelter(327, 485)Nine coal nodes and three ore nodes at high elevation

Tip: The desert swings between scorching days and cold nights, so carry heat-resistant gear for daytime mining and cold-resistant gear if you stay after dark.

How to mine coal nodes

Equip a pickaxe. Any tier will break a coal node, but a Metal Pickaxe pulls more coal per swing and clears deposits faster. Crafting one takes 20 Wood, 15 Stone, and 5 Ingots.

Travel to one of the coordinates above and look for the large, dark slate-grey rocks with sharp edges. These are the coal nodes, distinct from the paler stone around them.
Strike each node until it breaks and collect the coal that drops. Heat-resistant armor keeps you from taking temperature damage while you work in the desert.

You’ll know a run was worthwhile when several nodes in a cluster all crumble and your inventory fills with coal in a single visit, which is why the tightly packed spots outperform scattered single rocks.

Automate coal with a mining base

Manual mining works to get started, but a base near a rich cluster lets Pals gather coal while you focus elsewhere. Good base spots in Twilight Dunes sit around (-158, -91) west of the Anubis area and (-96, -120) to the southeast near the coast, where the raised rock adds some protection.

Place a Palbox close to the coal nodes. Building one costs 1 Paldium Fragment, 8 Wood, and 3 Stone.

Assign Pals with the Mining work suitability so they harvest coal on their own. Blazamut, Menasting, and Digtoise are strong choices for steady output.

Set wooden chests nearby to hold the mined coal, and add Berry Plantations and a Feed Box so your workers stay fed and productive.

At Level 53, you can unlock the Coal Mine from the Ancient Technology Tree for five Ancient Technology Points. Building it takes 70 Stone, 100 Coal, and 30 Paldium Fragments, after which assigned Mining Pals produce coal continuously.

What coal is used for

Coal’s main job is turning ore into Refined Ingots, the backbone of advanced crafting. It also combines into Carbon Fiber for high-end vehicles and gear.

  • Refined Ingots: 2 Coal plus 2 Ore in an Improved Furnace, used for Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Rocket Launchers, Refined Metal Armor, and structures like Electric Furnaces.
  • Carbon Fiber: Made by combining coal with other materials, needed for endgame items such as the Giga Glider and Legendary Spheres.

Because so many late-game builds route through Refined Ingots, keeping a mining base running at a dense desert or mountain cluster is the difference between crafting one weapon at a time and stockpiling for a full loadout. Lock in the desert coordinates first, then expand toward Verdant Brook or Duneshelter once a flying mount makes the higher terrain easy to reach.
