Panthalus is the giant whale Pal added in Palworld’s 1.0 update, and it never appears in the wild. This Water-type (Paldeck #203) only shows up after you finish a multi-step quest that starts once you clear the new Sunreach Tower boss. You collect four bones, craft a flute, summon the whale, and beat it inside a strict time limit.

Quick answer: Defeat Sunreach Tower boss Auri and talk to her to start the Panthalus quest, gather the four whale bones, craft the Echoing Flute, then use it at the Deserted Islet and reduce Panthalus to low health before throwing a Pal Sphere.

Start the quest by defeating Auri at Sunreach Tower

The whole chain is locked behind the new Sunreach Tower boss. You cannot craft the flute or trigger the encounter until this fight is done and you speak to Auri afterward.

Beat tower boss Auri, added in Version 1.0. After the fight, find her standing on a nearby ledge and interact with her.

Talking to Auri closes out two missions at once, Sunreacher and The Calamity, and starts a new quest called Panthalus: Prove Your Strength to Panthalus. That quest is what you follow from here.

Collect all four whale bones

With the quest active, whale skeletons appear as markers on your map. Each bone sits inside the skull of one of these skeletons. You may already own one or two if you have explored these areas, since the bones exist in the world regardless of the quest.

A flying mount makes this far quicker, since several skeletons sit on cliffs or partly buried terrain that you have to climb into.

Get the Blurry Schematic and craft the Echoing Flute

Travel to the Deserted Islet, a small island east of Ice Wind Island and north of Twilight Dunes. Unlock the fast travel point when you land.
Speak to the NPC standing next to the fast travel point. He hands you a Blurry Schematic, which you need to decipher the flute recipe.
Take the Blurry Schematic to the Ancient Workshop and craft the Echoing Flute. All four bones are consumed as materials, so make sure every one is in your inventory before you start.

Summon and catch Panthalus

Panthalus is a Level 70 boss with a huge health pool, so gear up and bring your best team before you awaken it. Once summoned, you have 10 minutes to bring it down.

Return to the Deserted Islet with the Echoing Flute and interact with the tablet near the shore. A short cutscene plays your character blowing the flute, which wakes Panthalus from the deep.

Because Panthalus is Water-type, Electric Pals hit hardest. Beakon is the most reliable pick, and Helzephyr Lux works well too. Aim at its body, which is its weak point, and stay airborne on a flying mount to dodge its tidal waves and body slams.
Once its health is low, throw a Pal Sphere. The capture here is guaranteed, so any sphere works and you do not need to burn a Legendary or Ultra Sphere. Keep your damage under control near the end so you don’t accidentally finish it off before you throw.

You know it worked when the capture banner appears and the quest updates. Speak to the NPC on the Deserted Islet again to complete the mission, and you earn 5 Ancient Technology Points for the encounter.

Resonant Guardian partner skill and riding

Panthalus unlocks its partner skill, Resonant Guardian, at Level 5. It can be ridden as a flying mount, which is unusual for a Water-type Pal. Assigned to a base, it patrols the skies and bombards intruders from above with an XL damage boost, and only one Panthalus can be summoned to a base at a time.
