Soul in the blue flower field of the Realm of Mirage in Phantom Blade Zero

Quick answer: Outfits are called appearances: press Esc, open the Character tab and press C for the Appearance page. In our run, it held six after the Final Battle ending: Black Scar (Fugitive), Sanguine, The Hunt, Legacy, Blizzard and Kindred.

How to change your appearance

Bring up the menu using Esc, then select the CHARACTER tab.
Use C to bring up the Appearance page. Looks appear in tiles, and the selected one is worn by Soul in the center; its name and description appear on the right.
Select a tile to see the controls in the prompt bar: press Space to switch Soul into that look, or T to show headwear.

A red indicator marks Soul’s equipped look, while a small red dot flags each appearance you haven’t viewed yet.

All appearances

Black Scar (Fugitive)

“Light traveling gear, left worn and tattered by a duel that shook heaven and earth with no one there to witness it. Even so, it still moves as one with Soul’s footwork.” In our run, this was the appearance Soul had on, with the red mark on its tile.

Sanguine

“Light traveling gear that balances protection with freedom of movement. When Ghoststep is unleashed, a streak of dark crimson flies with every motion, confounding the enemy’s eye until cloth and blade blur into one.” In our run, it was already in the menu after the ending, without a new dot.

The Hunt

“A loose hunter’s garb with a hood heavy enough to hold back the wind at a dead run. Nothing takes Soul’s life easily. Nothing but time.” It comes with the Final Battle ending.

Legacy

“No armor, only a grandmaster’s composure. Strength, bloodline, origin… every doubt that drifted through his mind in the quiet hours has finally found its answer.” In our run, it had a new dot after the ending, but it was not one of the three pop-ups on the end screen.

Blizzard

“A warrior’s traveling attire that long ago drank its fill of wind and snow. Folded in its pocket lies the portrait of a young boy, and bound up with it, a father’s unrelenting obsession.” It comes with the Final Battle ending.

Kindred

“A dignified martial uniform layered with scale armor, ideal for holding the line in a long, grinding battle. Perhaps before long they will meet again. A few drinks, a simple meal.” It comes with the Final Battle ending.

Outfits from the Final Battle ending

The end screen for the Final Battle ending displays three “APPEARANCE ACQUIRED!” notices in sequence: The Hunt, Kindred and Blizzard.

Each pop-up reads: “Press Esc to open the Character menu, then press C to access Appearance and equip.”

Once the ending is complete, continue playing in your new outfit or ask Inanis to start a New Cycle (see the New Game Plus guide).

Boy’s Worn Outfit

Boy’s Worn Outfit is an item rather than an appearance, so it doesn’t appear on the Appearance page.
